Riley's grown contentious since I left

Since I moved out, to go to college, Riley cat has been picking on the dog more than usual. They typically play-fight once a day; but since I've left, my parents have noticed (to their annoyance) that Riley and the dog have been going at it several times a day. Has anyone else experienced this...

    Pointesettia and Riley

Riley loves Christmas. There are bulbs to shatter, tinsel to tangle, and pine cones to bat around. It's the most wonderful time of the year, neh? But, I am wondering about that Christmas flower, pointsettia. I thought I heard once that it's poisonous to cats. Is this true? Should I get rid of...

    Strange happy behaviour

Yeah sounds like your kitten is playing around and is about to pounce when she kicks her legs like that. At least, that's what my Riley does when he is play-hunting, you know like chasing a spider or batting a bottle cap around. He crouches down, wriggles his rear end, springs up and down a bit...

What is this tiny black stuff?

Yes, I did what you said, Petnurse, and it is flea dirt. Lovely.

    Riley won't exterminate bugs anymore

Sounds like Riley! I didn't think of that; yeah maybe Riley ate a bug that didn't agree with him. Yeah that sounds like Riley - he doesn't like playing with earwigs. That is so funny about your cat cuddling the fly! Yeah it's icky. But what's ickier is having a bug run around in your house...

    Riley won't exterminate bugs anymore

Riley is a year and a half old. Whenever there was a spider in my room, I'd show it to Riley and he'd toy with it and then eat it. He was so handy. But lately, he hasn't been eradicating insects for us. Yesterday I showed him a big, juicy spider and he just purred and watched it, letting it...

Does anyone else's cat lick plastic bags?

Oh, I was wondering why, but that would explain Riley's taste for baggies.

Does anyone else's cat lick plastic bags?

Really? Oh, I'm glad you told me, Trouts mom, 'cuz I thought it was just Riley being weird. Do other cats lick the bags, too? Or just play with them?

    snoring.

Riley doesn't snore, but he wheezes even if he's awake. We call him the wheezer. It's 'cuz of the way his nose his.

Does anyone else's cat lick plastic bags?

Riley will persistently lick plastic bags - like Wal Mart sacks, or sandwich baggies. I dunno why. Does anyone else's cat do this? Is it just a Riley quirk?

    Why don't cats need exercise?

My dog pouts and whines and has pent-up energy if I don't walk her. I was wondering, how come cats don't need exercise? They just lay around. Don't they need to, I dunno, exercise their muscles or get their blood flowing or diffuse energy, like most mammals? And street cats are always roosting...

True that males are always two colors?

Thanks for the answer and clarification, Catfur and jlutgendorf. Now I know that kit cats can be solid colors, blends, or either with white. Thanks!

True that males are always two colors?

I heard that male cats are always two colors, and female cats are always multiple colors. Is this true? It held for my two kittens; Riley boy is grey and white, Kitty girl was a blend of browns, greys, and black.

    Toilet Paper

What should I do? Riley recently discovered an apparently fun activity which involves him sitting on the toilet, placing his front paws on the toilet paper roll, and unraveling it into a shredded pile on the floor. It's very annoying; how can I teach him not to do this? Any ideas?

    Cat beds??

Riley won't sleep in a cat bed. I'm glad though; I have three siblings and he is very nice - he visits all of us during the day and at night he will take turns sleeping on our beds of his own accord. He's so good, he doesn't play favorites with us. So he sleeps in our beds, not his own.

Should I worry about new kitten?

I got two new kitties at the same time, and the older one would tackle the smaller one and bite her, but not hard, just like your kitten. I'm quite sure they were playing, wrestling, establishing social order, getting their wiggles out, acting on hormones, and just plain teasing, when they did...

    Correcting Cats - Riley's a bad kitty.

On my table is a nice Christmas arrangement with potpourri and glass bulbs. Riley delights in swiping the bulbs off the table and watching them shatter on the tile floor. Usually he does it when he is wound up in the early hours, so I can't catch him. But today, he did it right in front of me...

    Can a cat's personality change?

Right now Riley is still a kitten, but he is almost full-grown. I am just wondering whether a cat's personality will change with age. He is very affectionate and playful right now, but is that just because he is a baby? I hope he stays like this forever!
