Yes the mother died. We found her outside our home already dead with about 8 inches of her colon hanging out. We have no idea what could have caused that. She (mother) would never let us near her.
Did you say you knew of a spay/neuter program? They are all girls and we need to get them spayed. They will be inside and outside. Their mother was a feral cat and would never let us touch her. She had 2 litters in less than 3 years. I don't want the same to happen to them.

We have rescued 3-5 week old kittens because their mother died. I've been nursing them and feeding them wet food mixed with water. They are eating great. However today one of them pooped in the floor instead of the litter box and I noticed a drop of blood beside the poop. What could be wrong?
