History: Found Frank as a stray when he was 2 months old. He was malnourished, had worms diarrhea. No problems since. He is now a healthy, 2-year-old, 18 pound cat.
The concern: He has a small, vertically oriented growth or scab above his lip. I first noticed it 2 days ago. Yesterday a very...
I stumbled across this protocol the other day and was pretty skeptical of what people were claiming, thinking the company probably posted the reviews. However, this website that spots fake reviews (Fakespot | Analyze and identify fake reviews) actually gives their listing on Amazon an A. I'm...
Hey there,
Our 11-month old kitten Frank was diagnosed with IBS when he was just several weeks old. He had a raging coccidia infection when we found him, and the vet diagnosed him with it then.
At the time the vet recommended exclusively dry food. He was basically leaking poop so the dry food...
I'll spare you Frank's full story, though if you're curious just look at my post history.
Anyway, we are a bit concerned that our 10-month-old Frank could have dry fip, though what he is experiencing has since been diagnosed as an IBD flareup. My question is simple: Are there any red flags for...
He has done well since receiving a steroid injection and appetite stimulant on Monday. Basically back to himself.
However, this morning was a bit strange. He was walking around the beg with his mouth slightly ajar, purring loudly. He stopped meowing when I started petting him and then when I...
The vet is quite confident that it is not in fact fip (phew).
The absence of a fever, strange litterbox routines and the absence of something that happens to the eyes in 80% of dry fip cases make it extremely unlikely.
For now the diagnosis is an IBD flareup. They did give him an enema, a...
He is at the vet right now so there is nothing we can do. We just left a message expressing our concern that he might be constipated. I will keep everyone updated, but in the meantime appreciate any and all advice. This has been very helpful.
That is definitely interesting. Do his clinical symptoms (unproductive trips to litterbox, vocalizing in litterbox, anorexia, vomiting clear liquid) seem consistent with constipation?
There is an "ask vet" group on Reddit and I have posted it there.
It just seems odd that a vet could miss that. Also, wouldn't they feel that when they palpate his stomach? When our other cat was constipated they basically knew just by feel.
We were researching possible causes the other night and when FIP came up we kind of worked ourselves into a tizzy. The vet said it's a "possibility" and believes it remains a possibility. In fact, he doesn't want to do an FIP test until he gets the result from the urinalysis and pancreas test...
Just dropped him off at the vet. Temp was 100.5. Vet wants to do a urinalysis and test his pancreas. If those don't turn anything up he wants to do a FIP test (not sure which one).
Here are xrays, for what it's worth:
Would love to hear more opinions, thanks!
He did poop yesterday though. And constipation should've been perceptible either when the vet felt his stomach or through the x-ray.
Now I'm wondering about something like urine crystals? He does eat exclusively dry food.
He did just once again go back and forth between the two litterboxes unproductively while meowing. My concern though remains if there is some kind of obstruction the xray and barrium test (which I believe was gruel) should have picked up on it, right?
