Actually there is no excuse for shelters not to have scanners.. I know the chip I get- Avid- provides the scanners free of charge to any shelter that requests one. All the shelters around here have them and most vets do too.

Thanks for the info, I'm in Auburn and have used the Spay and Neuter Clinic before.. they are great there! I think I'm going to ask them if they'd mind if I took her to the vet before they leave. Maybe it will prompt them to take her or let me anyway.
