You're correct, kitten is 6-8 weeks old and quite beautiful!  Odds are, it doesn't know "how" to lap up food yet and may have been without mom for awhile so not nursing any more either.  The hardest thing to do is introduce a kitten to milk or soft soft food for the first time.  It sounds cruel...
