Skunked by cat! Anal gland problem? Or is this normal?

Ugh, my 9 month old cat skunked me! I gently pushed him away from the door with the top of my bare foot against his butt to keep him from escaping, and I felt something wet on my foot and suddenly there was this really nasty smell! The others now don't want to come near me even though I washed...

Cat makes it so difficult to trim nails

I am having the same problem with my fat girl Dutchess.  I cut her nails once a month, and she was good about it until a couple months ago.  I am always very careful just to get the tip, but I wonder if maybe I cut one too close and hurt her that last time?  Now it's damn near impossible - she...

Sucessfully trapped Mom and 3 kittens - smallest one got away and is missing

Elsa and the little escapee (I have named her Monkey) are still living outside, and no I haven't attempted to trap her again yet. (yep its a girl) She still spends the hot days inside the water heater closet, and mom lays in the corner of my patio.  Mom has become friendlier and practically...

    Open or closed cat litter?

If your partner doesn't like the smell of an open litter box, imagine how the cats feel having to go inside a tiny enclosure and smell not only their own but the other cat's business.  Their sense of smell is much more sensitive than ours.  Imagine a really stinky nasty outhouse.  That is how...

Fostering 3 kittens born in my yard

These kittens are about 10 weeks old.  Mom brought them to my yard early May when they were about 2 weeks old.  With the help of my friend who runs a rescue, I trapped Mom, Dad and 3 of 4 kittens 2 weeks ago and we got them fixed.  Mom and Dad were released back in my yard and I am feeding her...

Patience is the key when working with ferals

I love this!  I am fostering 3 feral kittens now and this gives me hope.  Two of them are more social but the other is very scared and hisses every time I get near. And I still have one kitten outside that avoided being trapped with mama, daddy and the other three.

How to find homes for ex-feral cats?

If you live in or near a rural area, maybe you can find them homes as barn cats?  Where my mom lives in Wyoming the Humane Society traps and neuters ferals and adopts them out to local farmers looking for rodent control.  My mom adopted a beautiful Maine Coon mix who has worked out perfectly...

Picking up the 3 kittens tomorrow. Will be fostering them.

Well, the kittens are all settled into their new digs.  Dusty decided it was a good idea to lay in the clean litter box.  They have used it since and tossed litter all over the place.  I moved the box to the far end of the cage and the food by the door because they managed to get litter in their...

    Cat can't meow?

Did you know cats only "meow" at humans?  The females yowl when they are in heat and make a cute little trill when talking to their kittens, and chatter when they are in hunting mode, but for the most part cats have adapted to speak to us with the "Meow"  If you kitty was a former feral it is...

Worried about bringing in a feral cat

I'm sure it it stressful for Thomas because cats are very tied to their territory, but he knows you and will adapt.  Sending healing energy to both of you!
