    Bonded cat lost her buddy

My Lola was bonded to Percy, who passed a few months back. She never really was that interested in me--Percy was her world. There was another cat, Friend, who Lola didn't particularly care for. Friend passed a few years back. Since Percy's passing, she's gotten very clingy and grooms my...

    Miss Lola

Thank you! I just realized my avatar is her baby picture!

    Miss Lola

This is Miss Lola. She's a bit sad because she recently lost her best kitty friend. She's growing wings in his honor, and likes to show off her unusual fur pattern.

    Jaw Infection?

I have all stainless bowls.  The vet wonders if he's got an allergy to something he rubs up against. I had just gotten him to the point where he trusted me, and would even get in my lap.  Now he runs and hides again...Oh well, I hope he forgets about it soon so I can start getting his...

    Jaw Infection?

I got to the vet today (with a few scratches--boy, was he mad).  He does have cat acne with a secondary infection.  She thought it was an unusual place to get it.  My vet, who is a cat lover, also had trouble getting his mouth open.  He's got a few broken teeth, but pretty good shape for his...

    Jaw Infection?

One of my cats, Friend, is about 8 years old.  He had been abandoned about a year ago, and I took him in this fall.  He's finally allowing me to handle him more, and I noticed he has matching sores on each side of his jaw, roughly about where his canine (feline?) teeth.  It doesn't seem to pain...

    My sick cat won't eat!

My vet got me started using goat's milk on any animal that won't eat.  Easy on the tummy, easily digestible, and I have seen it work well as an appetite starter--all my fur babies (feline as well as canine) have had it when ill.  After they get stabilized, I start mixing canned food or boiled...

    House cleaning chores

I'll have to look into both the Roomba and the Shark, as well as keep my eyes open for an old Kirby.  I used to have an old Electrolux canister that was similar, but it disappeared with an old roommate :) I am surprised that the Roomba can hold that much, but even if I can just get the...

Questions from kids for school work about feeding newborn kittens

Just my 2 cents--KMR is expensive, and I didn't have any kittens, ever, who didn't try to spit it up.  I've had much better luck with goat's milk.  In another thread, I read that kittens who don't poop will tolerate a few drops of olive oil in their formula to help the process along.  I run an...

    House cleaning chores

Being the owner of 3 long-haired cats (as well as a large dog), I'm finding keeping up with the shedding a bit of a chore, and my vacuum cleaner is certainly not up to the task.  What vacuum cleaners do all the TCS members out there swear by?  Is there an upholstery/clothing tool that you find...

    3 week old kitten!

I didn't even think about needles and thread as a dangerous toy!  Thinking about it, I did have to take a bobbin of embrodiery thread away from Lola.  I had 1st hand experience once with curling ribbon from a balloon--it did come out, but it wasn't pleasant! Another fun toy--the cardboard tube...

    3 week old kitten!

Another DIY toy is a stuffed sock--I take an old cotton sock and stuff it loosely with paper (so she can hear it when she fights it).  My cats usually didn't like tin foil.  Smallish balls (not so little that she can get it in her mouth) are fun to chase.  Laser pointers are fun, if you can find...

Putting 1 cat on a diet in a multi-cat household

thanks, everyone, for their input!  I took Percy to the vet today, and he's only about 15 pounds by the vet's scale.  She doesn't think he's TOO overweight and thinks some "diet" food could do the trick.  I wanted to make sure that he didn't have some other condition that caused him to get...

Putting 1 cat on a diet in a multi-cat household

I think I bought an assortment of chicken and fish today...Iams, Nutro, and Blue Freedom.  I'll remember and go to chicken or turkey next round.  Lola, the kitten, liked the dog's Wellness fish and sweet potato kibble.  It was hard to keep her out of it!

Putting 1 cat on a diet in a multi-cat household

Wet food usually isn't a problem, although Percy has been known to turn his nose up at Blue Buffalo fish.  I like the idea of timed meals, especially in the morning.  I think I'll feed in 3 separate rooms while getting ready.  I'm also going to try to get him to the vet to make sure nothing else...

    3 week old kitten!

I did fresh with my Lola--even froze some.  She was about a month older, but horribly malnourished.

    3 week old kitten!

My vet swears by goats milk for baby kittens!  Keep her warm and snug.  I love your snuggle bag!  Many little feedings all day and all night.  Don't put her on cow's milk

    Cat speak

I find inter-species also very interesting.  I had a little bitty kitty (6 lbs full grown) named Oreo.  I also had a 130-lb malamute/wolf cross named Wallace.  Wallace loved small animals and babies.  Oreo was about 6 months old when she showed up at my house.  Wallace loved her from the start. ...

Putting 1 cat on a diet in a multi-cat household

I've been reading a lot of the threads about diet.  I have 3 cats--all obtained in the last year.  Percy is a long-haired B&W male adopted from a shelter where he was put after his owner passed.  He was depressed at the pound, and had lost weight (From about 14 pounds to 10).  I adopted a very...

    Mountain kitties

Here's Lola now. She's spoiled by Percy, who keeps that very proud tail in perfect order for her. He's got to go on a diet--probably since I adopted a dumped older male named Friend he's decided he needs to bulk up to be the alpha cat. Little does he know--the alpha is Lola. :lol3:
