My cats are driving me crazy

Okay, so here's the update. Dude sailed through his surgery. Fortunately his abdominal organs were around his heart and not his lungs, which means the surgery team didn't have to worry about re-inflating his lungs -- the most dangerous part of the operation. He no longer wheezes when he plays...

My cats are driving me crazy

Thank you, but I feel if the Gabapentin doesn't calm him nothing will. It's tough to think about spending 15K on a cat that is driving me nuts. And my other cat has simply retreated to the bedroom and rarely comes out now.

I can pay for the surgery. And of course I'm going ahead with it. It's on Monday morning. What I mean is that he is not crying because he's in pain. He's had this condition for many years. Since I've had him he's never showed any sign of discomfort. On the contrary; he's the most lively cat...

My cats are driving me crazy

Dude still meows all day. The Gabapentin worked for a while, but he's back at it. It's exhausting. I'm at the point where I wonder if I even want to keep him. The surgery is horrendously expensive. It's a no-win situation at this point.

My cats are driving me crazy

So -- an update. I took Dude to the vet and she game me some Gabapentin, but during the exam she noticed that something was strange about his abdomen. Turns out he has a long-term problem that is getting worse and requires surgery asap. He has a hernia in his abdomen that has caused all his...

My cats are driving me crazy

I've tried to take video, but my presence standing there with the camera changes his behaviour.

My cats are driving me crazy

Yes, he has all the same everything. I can't imagine that this is all about the move, which was almost 6 weeks ago now. The behaviour is getting worse, not better. My other cat whined about not having the balcony access any more but after a couple of weeks she accepted it and went back to...

My cats are driving me crazy

I have to find a new vet. I've already tried calling some even before I moved here. Half of them aren't taking on new patients and I don't think I can get an appointment for weeks. My mother is coming to visit for a month and I have no idea what to do. I have a screaming headache form the...

My cats are driving me crazy

No, it's not play. I'm not kidding, He starts to pace and meow EVERY THREE SECONDS as soon as I get up and he does it all day -- ALL DAY -- until I go to bed. I can't think. Playing with him for half and hour buys me no more then 5 minutes of peace and quiet. IT'S NOT MY FAULT so please...

My cats are driving me crazy

So now the little twerp is pounding on the door and meowing to go back out, even worse than before.

My cats are driving me crazy

I've been out calling him all afternoon. If he got scared he would just hide. This is truly the last thing I needed. EDIT: The little guy showed up at the door. And now he wants to go back out again. I guess he knows where he lives, at any rate. But keeping him in is going to be tough now...

My cats are driving me crazy

Well, things got worse today. Dude ran out when I opened the door. He hung around in the garden for a couple of hours but would not come in. Now he's just gone.

My cats are driving me crazy

Yes, I've been through thyroid issues myself and went undiagnosed for decades because my test results in my 20's were all around a TSH of 5-7, which was considered normal back then. It wasn't until my TSH hit over 100 when I was 39 that somebody finally clued in. Dude maybe in that category.

My cats are driving me crazy

I've had him tested twice and was told his thyroid is fine. I don't believe it. Since I've moved to a new town I'll get him tested again.

My cats are driving me crazy

Thanks for the suggestion but I do use those earplugs already -- they are by far the most comfortable. However, they are no match for my girl. I think I'll have to get going on a catio sooner than anticipated. I spent some time today looking for a likely spot and I think the small sliding...

No, the door to the outside is a large French door, not a slider.

My cats are driving me crazy

Thanks for the suggestion. I do sleep with ear plugs. Willow has the lungs of an opera singer. So regarding the cat tent, I was looking at something bigger, like this, and wondering how you get the cat back out: Outdoor Cat Enclosures,6-in-1 Cat Tent with Cat Tunnel for Indoor and...

My cats are driving me crazy

With regards to the food, about a year and a half ago my vet told me to just feed Willow the TD dry food. Big mistake. Prior to that she would eat certain wet food but she has always been a fussy eater, even as a kitten. Now she's completely addicted to the TD, and has gained weight! I've...

My cats are driving me crazy

I can't imagine trying to get a cat back OUT of a stand-alone catio. I will try to keep walking him but so far he won't go out the door unless I pick him up and then he's really nervous. He's fine with the leash and harness, oddly. I almost get the sense he's been trained before, though I was...

My cats are driving me crazy

So, In response to all of the above, my late partner was always up in the night and fed Willow. Since he died last year she has been waking me up early in the morning and nothing I do gets her to stop for more than a night or two. I've tried yelling, hissing under the door, banging on the door...
