Here is an update on what I have tried: Called a couple of vets in the area and they basically told me there is nothing they can really do and to just keep trying the shelters; also called our local animal control office and am still waiting for them to call me back; have also called a few more...

Thank you to both of you for your quick replies. I tried calling a vet here in town when the cat first appeared but they were not very helpful. Will try to locate some other vets and give them a call and see what happens. Again, thank you!
