My cat Monte has been diagnosed with kidney issues and he's on the K/D (wet and dry food)
I notice that he'll sometimes drink water for a couple of minutes after he has eaten.
Is it good for cats with kidney issues to drink more water? Or should we be concerned?
Thanks for the nice compliment RascalShadow:)
Monte can be very friendly when he wants to be but on his own terms. He doesn't like it when anyone is too clingy with him or when someone holds him too tight. He's most affectionate at bedtime when he wants to cuddle near my pillow.
Here's an update on Monte and his new diet.
We picked up the new prescription food for Monte this weekend. We got him the Hills Kidney Diet (K/D) chicken flavour dry food and a few cans of the wet food from Hills Kidney diet (small cans (2.9 oz) of the vegetable and tuna stew and the big cans...
I'll look into the Weruva
I'll have to look into the Weruva brand of cat food. We're lucky that Monte will eat almost any brand of cat food. The only brands he doesn't like are the ones that are a lot like people food. Monte is still in very good health. His appetite is very good and his coat...
I really appreciate the link to the kidney cats website. It has some very helpful information.
I may stop giving Monte the Wellness dry food as he doesn't eat it that often.
To Philovance:
Thank you so kindly for the information and your well wishes for Monte. Hopefully the prescription diet will help Monte. We're fortunate that Monte isn't a picky eater and hopefully he'll like the food.
My cat Monte is 12 years old and we just got the bloodwork back from his checkup. Our vet said that his bloodwork was okay except his kidney levels were higher. I'm not familiar with the numbers or what they mean but our vet said that normal kidney levels should be at at 150 and Monte's was at...

That's wonderful to hear that Maple is doing so well on the Prozac!
I believe that the Prozac is helping Maple be the cat she's supposed to be. More playful and happy.
Prozac is very safe as long as the vet is monitoring Maple to see how she's doing on it.
Like with my cat Monte, he's been on...
The change could be because your cat is off the Prozac. Did you stop the Prozac gradually or all at once?
You should consult with your vet to make sure that the symptoms your cat is experiencing are due to his stopping the Prozac.
I'm glad that Maple is feeling much happier since she's been on Prozac. To answer your question about how the Prozac starts working. With Monte it was more of a gradual thing. I noticed that in a couple of weeks since he first started taking Prozac, he was less jumpy. Before Prozac, anything...
I remember those days of trying to cut Monte's pills in half! It wasn't easy because sometimes instead of getting cut in half, the pill would get crushed and I would be left with powder to figure out how much to put in his pill pocket. That reminds me- I still have some half pills that I should...
It migh take 2 or 3 weeks before the Prozac gets into your cat's system and starts working. Your vet will also see which dose is working for your cat as well.
My cat Monte started on 7mg when he was 19 lbs and then we reduced his dose to 5mg after he stabilized on the Prozac and when he also...
It's great to hear a success story! Beezer sounds like quite a character!
My cat Monte actually lost weight on Prozac because he wasn't eating so much due to anxiety.
Thank you for your condolences about my Shelby. I'm so sorry for the passing of your cat as well from this heartbreaking disease.
What makes it even harder is that they can seem like they're in perfect health just before they pass away. It was like that for Shelby. I was so unprepared and I...
