Children's Dimetapp for Chronic nasal congestion?

Thanks for all the replies. I would definitely check with my vet first. He's had blood work but no x-rays. He came from a hoarding situation and the vet thinks it's likely he had an upper respiratory infection that wasn't treated when he was a kitten, which could have damaged his nasal...

Children's Dimetapp for Chronic nasal congestion?

Hi - my 3-yr old cat Otis has chronic nasal congestion with lots of sneezing. I've tried Claritin, Doxyclyline, L-lysine and a liquid steroid. The Claritin made him so drowsy and didn't really help the sneezing. No luck with the other treatments and my vet is out of suggestions as well. I...

Water additive for stomatitis - or other medication/supplement?

Thanks. He drank the water with Oratene for two or three weeks, not exactly sure. I know he won't even go near it now. He's never like seafood so I haven't had luck putting tuna water or other seafood liquid in his food. I've tried several times over the years, since he's a really picky...

Water additive for stomatitis - or other medication/supplement?

I have a 13 yr old cat with severe asthma who was diagnosed with stomatitis and I've been pulse dosing the antibiotic Clindamycin for a few years (one week/month). It's getting worse though, and the dental veterinarian I saw recommended a few products. One was a water additive called Oratene...

Thanks - great suggestion. I plan to call the vet tomorrow to discuss his treatment and will bring this all up. I really appreciate everyone sharing their experience, it is SO helpful.

Help/maintenance for kitty with feline herpes virus

Thanks - my vet has not mentioned antivirals, but I will definitely bring it up. He doesn't really have eye symptoms, very slight sometimes, it's mostly the nose and breathing. The vet confirmed that his lungs are fine, so that was good to know. Since Doxycycline knocked it out once, I was...

Help/maintenance for kitty with feline herpes virus

Hi - my kitty is getting worse and I wanted to ask about what antihistamine you used - and about the colloidal silver. I tried an antihistamine that my vet prescribed and it did nothing but make him tired. I'm not familiar with Zenequin but I will ask my doctor about it. I'm also not familiar...

Help/maintenance for kitty with feline herpes virus

Good point. I use two window unit air conditioners in my apartment during the summer so they keep the humidity down-that’s why I was thinking of using a humidifier.

Help/maintenance for kitty with feline herpes virus

Thanks again! I've been putting him in the bathroom with me a couple times a day after running a hot shower so he can get some steam. It hasn't done the trick so far, but it's only been three days. I'm considering getting a humidifier and wondered which is better - cool or warm mist?

Help/maintenance for kitty with feline herpes virus

Thank you - this is very helpful! I'm not sure I'll be able to do the saline drops, he's not open to me touching his nose at all - at least yet:) But, I'll definitely check out the treats for stress and make sure he's getting enough water. I think spring/allergies may also be causing this...

Help/maintenance for kitty with feline herpes virus

My new cat has just come down with another bout of sneezing and watery eyes caused by the feline herpes virus. He had this when I adopted him in January and it was treated successfully with Doxycycline. I used to have another cat with this issue, which would flair up from time to time, and...

    Help with giving azithromycin/oral medication

Hi - just a note of thanks for the doxycycline suggestion. I suggested it to my vet and a local compounding pharmacy filled the prescription. He's eating it up in his food, doesn't even notice it's there. Yay!

    Help with giving azithromycin/oral medication

Thanks. Yes, I'm concerned about Convenia as well. I just called the vet them and asked about alternatives. I'd LOVE to be able to mix it into his food, which is what I do with my other cat. He's a big eater, so chicken flavored anything would probably work:) I'll mention doxycycline. I've...

    Help with giving azithromycin/oral medication

Thanks all! It's a liquid, which is part of the issue. I can't pull his head back because he could aspirate on the fluid. I live alone and there's no one who can assist everyday (especially with the pandemic). He's had two shots of Convenia over the last month and they don't seem to help...

    Help with giving azithromycin/oral medication

My new kitty needs azithromycin to treat his upper respiratory infection (already given Convenia). My issue is not being able to give it to him. It's not my first rodeo with giving cats medication, but this boy will absolutely have none of it. I've tried all the techniques in my toolbox...

New cat introduction in small apartment issue

He was neutered last year I think. I used pet wipes and they pretty much took care of the odor. Happy to report that both cats have met and spent time together with almost no hissing. They are comfortably sleeping near each other right now. Whew!😌🐾

New cat introduction in small apartment issue

Thanks! My current cat has been spending more time under the couch since the pandemic started. My schedule has been less predictable working some from home and some days in the office so it's thrown off his routine. It seems to comfort him to be in a more closed space. Also, his brother died...
