Chronic calicivirus causing mouth sores and bad breath.

I took him to a very good but super expensive vet who cleaned his teeth really thoroughly a couple of times a few months apart and also gave him some anti-biotic injections and made me give him Radogyl for a week. I think a few teeth were removed but most of them are okay. Since then his breath...

Chronic calicivirus causing mouth sores and bad breath.

A specialied vet dentist is also not an option here. :.( Hopefully in a few months I will be able to bring him with me to the UK where things will be better.

Chronic calicivirus causing mouth sores and bad breath.

Thanks, this is really interesting. He hasn't been tested. I'm in Jordan, and go to the nicest vet here, and doubt it's an option, although I'll certainly ask, and I'll also ask about the condition you mentioned. Whatever it is, the antibiotics (spiramycin/metronidazole) seemed to clear it up...

Chronic calicivirus causing mouth sores and bad breath.

I have a cat rescued from the street who is about a year old and generally in very good health with plenty of energy and a good appetite. He does however have chronic terrible breath and mouth sores. This clears up with antibiotics, but returns a few weeks later. 2 vets I have seen say it's...

Potential Kidney Failure Would Like Advice

I called the vet's today and the receptionist said she's fine. I won't fully believe it until I hear it from one particular vet (because I don't think I would survive being in that heat for that long, and because you often can't trust that sort of good news here) but am now very hopeful. Just to...

Potential Kidney Failure Would Like Advice

Thank you for this it's exactly what I wanted to know. From this and other reading it seems that even with bad long term kidney damage, some cats can have a reasonable if not the same quality of life for a long time with just a few adjustments and nothing to distress the cat. Hopefully this will...

Potential Kidney Failure Would Like Advice

Thank you to everyone for the information. I can't imagine giving my cat IV's. She would hate it, feel like I was persecuting her, and it would quickly become impossible. Hopefully she can get better with a special type of Royal Canin plus some meds. How do cats with kidney disease behave? Do...

Potential Kidney Failure Would Like Advice

Thanks for the nice reply. She is on iv with the vet for three days and then they will know how bad her kidneys are. It sounds like there is definitely a lot of damage and it's a matter of determining how much, and hen deciding what to do about that. The vet spoke as if putting her down was...

Potential Kidney Failure Would Like Advice

I live somewhere really hot and yesterday my house cat (who I've had since she was a kitten, for 4 years with no problems) got outside because I left the door to the roof open, and she was lost for a day. When I found her and took her to the vet, he ran a test and said her kidneys were in...
