To everyone who might be following this thread or who has offered wonderful advice - here are some photos of Scooter and Edward. They are long lost twin brothers! Fingers crossed everything continues to go well :)

Thank you so much! I know my neighbour is a great cat owner as well.

Really Need Advice: New Home/owner, Same Neighbourhood, Outdoor Cat

Edward doesn't have a porch exactly. He lives in the basement of the house next door. I could take him to that porch. But there are 5 other cats that live in that apartment and frequent the porch! I'm going to try to take him over. Start today and see how it goes.

Really Need Advice: New Home/owner, Same Neighbourhood, Outdoor Cat

I'm meeting with my neighbour today to get things started! I'll keep you posted. I'm a bit worried about the logistics of doing this since it's super snowy here. I mean I can easily carry him over but ideally he'll walk.

Really Need Advice: New Home/owner, Same Neighbourhood, Outdoor Cat

Yes it's so difficult :( Thank you for my advice! I hope I'll be able to, but I'm in a complicated situation that I prefer not to get into. At this point I'm going to transition him as if it's forever. I am so worried about him. I really hope he'll adapt and be happy there. I've had him...

Really Need Advice: New Home/owner, Same Neighbourhood, Outdoor Cat

Yeah he'll stop when I make a hissing sound or a loud noise. But I want him to back off when Edward says "NO!" Maybe eventually. Plus they're both still quite young (1.5 years) so he'll probably get less playful over time (I'm assuming...).

Really Need Advice: New Home/owner, Same Neighbourhood, Outdoor Cat

Thanks! Should my cat then back off when Edward screeches? Because he doesn't haha.

Really Need Advice: New Home/owner, Same Neighbourhood, Outdoor Cat

I will do that. Any tips on how that might look? Bring him outside in a carrier over there, feed him, and then walk with him back? He won't walk into someone else's apartment right away. He's very skittish and nervous. Maybe after a while of the routine he'd walk on his own...

Really Need Advice: New Home/owner, Same Neighbourhood, Outdoor Cat

Thanks for the info! There is some fur lost... but not huge amounts. I am just worried about the growling and screeching from Edward!! And occasional hiss. I shouldn't be worried about that? I want them to get along and play more gently haha.

    Fighting Or Playing?

When they're actually rolling around their tails don't seem to do anything notable. When they split up and kind of look at each other their tails whip around. They touch noses as a greeting sometimes but not when they're fighting. They don't really groom each other but I've seen a lick for a...

    Fighting Or Playing?

Thank you for your reply!! They do sometimes pull each other's fur out. And there is sometimes growling (only from Edward). I do think they're playing for the most part but I think Scooter is just too rough with Edward... Is it normal for there to be sometimes screeches, growls, or hisses in...

    Fighting Or Playing?

Hi everyone, I wanted to get your opinion on if this behaviour was fighting or playing or both? I have a video but I can't seem to upload it. Any tips on that?? For context - my cat (Scooter, male, 1.5 years) and my neighbour's cat (Edward, male, 1.5 years) know each other and will soon be...

Really Need Advice: New Home/owner, Same Neighbourhood, Outdoor Cat

Good to know. Thank you ~ I'll see how this can work out with the other cat. I hope they don't kill each other!! They like to play together but my cat will often be too aggressive and the other cat will screech or hiss. I don't know if this is normal in the context of their play. I think my...

Really Need Advice: New Home/owner, Same Neighbourhood, Outdoor Cat

Yes that makes sense. I'll work with my neighbour on that. And yes - I will try to relax! Do you think it's a good idea to lock my cat in my neighbour's for the first week I have officially left? That way his new environment sets in more clearly?

Really Need Advice: New Home/owner, Same Neighbourhood, Outdoor Cat

Thank you so much - I will talk to my neighbour about arranging feeding somehow. I should probably start ASAP so it becomes a routine sooner rather than later. Do you think my cat will be satiated if he eats two meals a day, morning and night? He usually eats a lot at those times, but eats...

Really Need Advice: New Home/owner, Same Neighbourhood, Outdoor Cat

My neighbour is willing to sacrifice his heating bill so his cat always can come in an open window, all winter! So his cat is safe and comfortable. Are you concerned with that arrangement? Like maybe my cat will be confused/not return home and get too cold? I will have to problem solve of...

    I will move Feb 1 - so I have over a month.

Really Need Advice: New Home/owner, Same Neighbourhood, Outdoor Cat

And again - thank you for another reply. I am so worried that he'll get confused, scared, or lost, so I think that changing the feeding routine will be really helpful. I guess I'll keep some dry food in my place and he can have wet food at the neighbour's. The only issue is - it is winter...

Really Need Advice: New Home/owner, Same Neighbourhood, Outdoor Cat

Thank you for your reply!! I don't think my cat goes to my neighbour's house ever. But I could start luring him there with food. I feed him once in the morning and once in the night (and he grazes the rest of the time). I can definitely set that up with my neighbour. I have until Feb 1 to...
