Do Cats Need To Eat Less When On Raw Diet?

This is not accurate IMHO- here's why. 1- Cooking is NOT akin to partial digestion. When you cook, you cross-link proteins, you do not break them down. Think of what happens when frying an egg. 2- Carbohydrate is not a part of a cat's natural diet, beyond the 1-2% of what is in their prey's...

Safe Floor Cleaner And General Cleaners

I had read online that using vinegar and water is a good, safe floor cleaner, so I tried it last weekend. I cleaned the place and let my cats into the kitchen- and they refused to eat for two days. They were acting really strange, like edgy and just not themselves. I would put food down, they'd...

My cat keeps getting poop stuck to her butt by a long piece of hair

Curious about her pica- any materials in particular? Does she eat litter or lick tile or concrete?

    Stubborn Skin Allergy

Could be food allergy? It took me months to find out my cat was allergic to fish. She had huge raw skin patches and bloody stools. She can't have anything with any seafood in it. Cats can be very sensitive- corn, grains, soy, etc are in most commercial foods.

No idea what my poor girl is allergic too

Not to disagree with the vet's diagnosis, but from my research the hydrolyzed protein foods are not all they are cracked up to be when it comes to allergies. http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2012/05/07/protein-diets-for-pets-allergy.aspx...

    Cat lethargic and acting strange

Strange that the vet would say it's from a virus if the WBC is down- if you are fighting infection, your WBC should go up.  Two months ago I almost lost my 2-year old cat and we still don't know what caused her issues. She was weak, lethargic, not eating, lost weight, her hind legs seems to be...

2 year old cat stopped eating - sick? anxiety?

Not likely to be stress. Animals do not have 'stress issues' the way we do; they will experience a stressor, the fight or flight instinct happens (in this case yours 'fled' and hid under the bed), and then they return to baseline. Unless she is continually being terrorized by someone or...

Angus is lethargic, weak, cold, wont move, wont eat, etc. 3rd time in 3 months after adoption.

How is red blood cell count? My cat was anaemic and had similar symptoms. Check his gums- they should be bubble-gum pink. If they are pale he is anemic and could need a blood transfusion. https://adelaidevet.com.au/pet-library/gum-colour-and-your-cats-health My cat is still on steroids; she...

    Catsu's not so well?

On elf my cats had the exact same issues, except her skin problems were on her inner thighs. It was a food allergy- I posted the following in another thread: "One of my cats had bloody diarrhea for a long time from right when I got her and we could not figure out why. She also had raw patches...

    Oliver won't eat dry food

Dry food is considered by many knowledgeable vets to be a poor choice for cats for many reasons. Good quality canned (without wheat, corn, or soy) is far better or raw if you want to go that route. http://www.blakkatz.com/dryfood.html

    Fading Kitten Syndrome

YES- I agree. I just went through a horrible experience with my cat who nearly died from being anemic. It was not from fleas (indoor cat) but all the research I was doing showed that it is a very common problem- this cat MUST be rid of fleas, and may need a transfusion. Have they done any...

    Asthma vs tidycats clumping litter?

Personally, I switched my cats to a clumping grass-based litter and it's really excellent. NO dust so much healthier for us all. Corn litter is OK but does not clump as well; the grass one is great. The best clay litter I've found if Arm and Hammer Clump & Seal- the 'light' version has zero...

    Eating cat litter

It is possible the cat is anemic- it is very common for anemic cats to eat litter, lick tile or concrete, etc. My cat almost died two months ago and that was one of the signs; I had to rush her to ER for two blood transfusions. There are other medical possibilities- I would go to the vet ASAP. I...

    There's no vet, pelase help

Could it simply be scratches for either fighting with the other cat, or from her own claws not being trimmed? If her claws are too long she can scratch herself while cleaning.

2 Year Old Kitty With Anemia

We cut Jasmine's Dexamahasone in half after the last visit- next visit is January 07 so I'm anxious for a couple of weeks until we see how she is doing on a lower dose. She's seemed much better the last few weeks, no way of knowing if cutting her meds will have any good or bad effects. Her gums...

2 Year Old Kitty With Anemia

BTW- the only reason she was on mineral water is because Vancouver has extremely soft water with also no minerals at all. Most areas tap water should be fine- unless your cat doesn't like the chlorine smell. You can also use distilled water.

Cat will just lick gravy from food but not eat all of it

That is encouraging news! I personally would keep her on wet food, especially since she is now liking it.  These links about feeding dry to cats are full of excellent information. http://consciouscat.net/2010/04/05/the-truth-about-dry-cat-food/...

How to get my cat to drink more water or eat wet food

I make plain steamed chicken breasts to cut up for cat treats, and they LOVE the water afterwards (once it has cooled, of course) because the chicken fat and flavour has dripped into it making a weak broth. People also suggest using tuna juice in water. BTW- great site about feline digestive...

2 Year Old Kitty With Anemia

That's great- happy to hear he's doing better! Just something to be aware of is the extremely high vitamin A content of liver. http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/vitamin-a-toxicosis-in-cats/389 I know- sometimes it seems it's difficult to know what...

Loose cat stool with horrible smell

I totally agree- beef, venison, kangaroo, ostrich, and many other proteins can be fine for most cats. I simply meant that some cats may have allergies as these are not really a natural food source for domestic house cats. Large wild cat species might take down a cow, but I'd be very surprised if...
