Stella & Chewy's Freeze-Dried Chicken Dinner for Cats

100% Positive Reviews

Pros: Nutrious and appeals to one of the fussy cats

Cons: could have less bone

While the bag is expensive, per serving, it is comparable to premium canned cat food.  You measure out the nuggets and pour warm water over them to re-hydrate. Since my one cat will not drink plain water, I tried this as a way to get him to consume more water. After the nuggets are wet I cut them up into smaller bits. My cat laps up the broth and then eats the wet nuggets.  The bag says that it will last about a week for a 8 pound cat.

My cat likes the chicken and the duck as well. I alternate them so the kitty doesn't get bored.

Pros: easy to serve, no by-products, raw food simplified

Cons: expensive

I had been wanting to try a raw food diet as a supplement to my cat, Angie's dry cat food.  But, I didn't have the freezer space to store bags of raw cat food that was sold at a local natural pet store (my fridge/freezer is small).  I was given a small individual serving pack of Stella And Chewys Duck Duck Goose flavor cat food, and Angie gobbled it all up.  Since she liked that one so much, I decided to get a larger bag of another flavor for her.  Angie loves chicken, so I knew that the Stella and Chewys chicken feeeze dried food would be a big hit.  Sure enough, Angie liked it just as much as the duck flavor.  It is very easy to prepare; just put a small serving in a bowl with some warm water.  I usually put a tiny bit more water that the directions say to, so Angie has some "broth" to go with her food, which has helped her get more fluids in her system.  After all, cats normally don't drink enough fluids, and this is a great way to get more in them to keep their kidneys functioning well.

The Stella and Chewy's freeze dried food comes in two sizes: a individual serving size that gives you about a much as a small can of cat food (like a Fancy Feast sized can) and a large bag that has approx. 22 servings.  One thing I like about both is that they are vacuum sealed, so they stay fresher, and the individual packs are great to keep in a pet emergency kit, because they don't take up a lot of room, unlike cans of cat food.  The biggest thing I love about Stella and Chewy's is that you can pronounce everything on their label and there is basically meat and vitamins, nothing else!  It is a wonderful food to feed any cat from kitten to senior.  When I was fostering an 8 week old kitten recently, I served him Stella and Chewys once a day in addition to grain free dry cat food, and he woofed it down as fast as his little mouth could chew; he liked it that much.

My cat's love Stella and Chewys!  I always keep some around to give as treats or to use as meal toppers.  My cat used to never like any kind of cat treats until we discovered S&C. It's pretty expensive so I only use it as treats, not meals.  I like that it is a balanced food so that I don't have to worry about how much I'm feeding.  However, I was really irked about the whole Listeria recall.  On the bag, it claims that the food has been prepared in a way to make it safe.

"All product is manufactured using our patented SecureByNature® food safety process. A key feature of that process is High Pressure Processing (HPP). All Stella & Chewy’s products are cold-pressed, using water at pressure equal to that found at the bottom of the ocean (87,000 lbs. per square inch), where harmful bacteria cannot survive."

Luckily I didn't have any of the bags involved in the recall, but I really don't want to have to worry about whether I'm feeding something harmful to my cats.  Anyways, I'll continue buying since they like it so much, but may rethink if something like this happens again.

Pros: "safe raw," easy to crumble and rehydrate, convenient

Cons: on the expensive side, a bit of a learning curve for the cats

Our two cats love Stella & Chewy's freeze-dried chicken dinner -- they whimper while I'm fixing it -- though it took them some time to get used to freeze-dried raw without any canned or frozen raw food mixed in. I crumble the nuggets before adding water and then stir a few times over two or three minutes, crushing the pieces with a fork. The cats lap up the food and the broth it makes. (I add a little extra water.)

Stella & Chewy's is relatively expensive, though prices vary a lot in our local stores ($19.95-23.95 for a large bag). I like that it rehydrates easily, doesn't have filler vegetables and fruits, has been treated to kill bacteria, and makes the cats happy. It's great to have in the raw part of their food rotation, particularly on days when I forget to thaw something! :Kitty Food:

Pros: Raw

Cons: Relatively expensive

We've been feeding our dog a Stella & Chewy's frozen raw dog food but recently found out that the company also offers the same line of products for cats. I just bought the freezedried one from amazon (seems like they are not offering the frozen one for cats yet) for my Mooch and see if she likes raw food. When we were feeding our dog a mix of a can and a dry food, he wasn't very interested (took a long time to finish, sometime he didn't even finish it) but as soon as I switched to Stella & Chewy's he finishes his food in less than a minute! I'll update my review when I get the product from amazon!
