Fluid in Lungs - Please help Delilah!

Hey everyone, I just wanted to give one more update on Delilah: A year later, she is doing very well. Our best guess is that she got an opportunistic infection when she was stressed out (her owner, my boyfriend's dad, went on vacation without her). It goes to show you that there is hope out...

Fluid in Lungs - Please help Delilah!

Thanks for the vibes! Keep 'em coming! Has anyone administered sub-Q fluids before? The vet tech showed me how, putting the needle in on the skin near her neck, and I did it for the first time yesterday! Poor thing was just crying! I know she doesn't like that they're cold, so I was going...

Fluid in Lungs - Please help Delilah!

The lung fluid culture results came back. Delilah has Nocardiosis, a bacterial infection of the lungs. This is a serious lung infection, but is treatable. I think she is on the road to recovery. She is breathing way easier, and even ate a little herself yesterday!! Now our job is to keep...

Fluid in Lungs - Please help Delilah!

Thanks for all the good vibes guys! I almost don't want to say it to jinx myself, but Delilah is doing better! We're giving her sub Q fluids once a day as well as the syringe feeding, since she was a bit dehydrated the last time she visited the vet. We get culture results on the lung fluid...

Fluid in Lungs - Please help Delilah!

Well, the vet tried to drain the fluid in the lungs today. Fortunately Delilah was able to handle the anesthetic, we are so relieved. The vet said the fluid is really thick, she's never seen it this thick, so she was able to get a sample but wasn't able to drain the lungs. She said she doesn't...

Fluid in Lungs - Please help Delilah!

Thanks for all the support. Delilah's blood result for Valley Fever came back negative as we expected. The next step is to drain her lungs - she has an appointment tomorrow. The vet has decided to risk sedating her - so hopefully all goes well. And, hopefully the fluid will tell us...

Fluid in Lungs - Please help Delilah!

Not so good. She's so skinny and frail, ate a tiny piece of chicken and a few treats on her own today. She did manage to urinate, and is sleeping a lot. She's having trouble breathing, and I'm trying not to stress her out and make it worse when I feed her. Thanks for all the help, I...

Yes, we have been syringe feeding her all weekend! Can you believe we had trouble getting a syringe from the pharmacy because they were worried my father in law was doing drugs??? Craziness. Anyways...Now my biggest worry is feeding her too much...how much should a grown cat be syringe fed in...

13yr old cat with a big lump on cheek

My cat Ping Pong had a tumour on her cheek. I hope that's not it, but it's something you should be aware of. Cats also are prone to get absesses, and in this case the vet will probably have to drain it. Good luck!

Fluid in Lungs - Please help Delilah!

Will let you know on Monday what the results are for the Valley Fever test (even though to me, it seems like a long shot). We are thinking of trying to drain the lung fluid again - even if it means using a sedative, which the vet has warned will be dangerous in her condition. She's eating...

Fluid in Lungs - Please help Delilah!

Sorry to hear about Willow. As you can see from the blood results posted below, the ratio is 0.27, so I am very afraid for FIP. Also, a new cat was introduced to the household 6 months ago. It sounds like she could be a carrier for the coronavirus, from what I've been reading. Delilah (the...

Fluid in Lungs - Please help Delilah!

Thanks. Blood results have come back. She is negative for everything, although she does have elevated protein levels. The vet thinks it might be valley fever. Does anyone have any experience with this one? The vet doesn't think it's cardiomyopathy because of the blood panel results (not...

Thanks for the reply. I hadn't heard of feline hepatic lipidosis before - I just looked it up, though, and it doesn't seem to account for the fluid in the lungs? She also has never been overweight.

The vet gave her some a/d wet food, and she's been eating some fancy feast wet food too, when I hand feed her. She won't touch dry food anymore. I'm not too sure how to check for dehydration - is it just by seeing if her skin "sticks" to her body? Thanks so much for the help!
