    Is This A Good Diet?

Get ready for some truth bombs (lol): 1) A kitten's nutritional needs are exactly the same as an adult cat's - only they need more of it per ounce of body weight because growing takes a lot of energy. 2) Most commercial kitten food is the brand's adult cat formula + additional fat content...

    Is This A Good Diet?

Dry-wise, Science Diet and Blue Buffalo aren't in the top tier (despite what their massive advertising budgets would have you believe), I would instead try to get my hands on some Nulo, Nature's Logic, Go!, Nature's Variety Instinct, Acana, or if you can afford it, Wysong or Orijen...

Do cats eat more than they should?

It varies by individual. Some cats pig out on anything they can find, some are selective and hard to please. Your boy may be pigging out at the neighbour's, not necessarily because he's being underfed by you. There's little you can do about it except lock him indoors during your neighbour's cat...

Kitten feeding guide help!? wet food

"Kitten food" is just adult food with extra fat (this saves the food company money from meat). The premise is that kittens can burn away the extra fat through growing, whereas adult cats would just get fat. Don't be fooled! While it IS hard for a growing kitten to get fat, excess fat in the diet...

My cat won't stop eating the dog food.

I agree with asking the dog owners to transition to a food for both cats and dogs. EVO is another brand that's fine for both. At least, a high-protein dog food such as Orijen would still be okay. You and your boyfriend could offer to contribute a bit to the extra cost if that's an issue...

    Fussy kitten?

It's common for one cat to dominate the food supply and leave the other cat with less. I agree with feeding one kitten in a room with the door closed until the slower kitten has finished her portion. Kitten milk is totally unnecessary for weaned kittens, I wouldn't get any more. :)

Frustrated! Fancy feast or Origen dry?

Orijen is a very high-quality dry, I don't think it's worse than ANY wet food. Hydration is important, but so is good nutrition! I second feeding both - personally I feed Orijen Red dry and Nulo Duck dry grinded into Cats in the Kitchen wet, plus warm water for extra hydration.

What's the skinny on Blue Buffalo?

Tiki Cat and Weruva are high grade low-calorie foods. I've heard a lot about Blue Buffalo being a sketchy product masquerading as high-quality food, so I avoid it.

Any guesses on royal baby name?

I have a sneaking suspicion they chose George because it was not a name people were expecting (and betting on). With the amount of pressure they must feel on having these babies, picking an unexpected name is a gleeful little "screw you" to the media circus and rabid attention surrounding the...

Dissatisfied teenage kitty on a tear

If he likes batting at cords, maybe suspending a teaser toy in the air or even a mobile sort of toy somewhere just within his reach will keep him entertained. It's possible that he hears insects scuttling around in the ceiling and just wants to hunt.

    Kitty hissing at women?

It's so strange, but I've read and heard about some female cats much preferring me as well as some male cats much preferring women. I don't know why they would have this preference, but assuming you are a woman and she's perfectly fine with you, it may just take a bit of time and work before she...

    Evaluate my proposed cat's diet

(I made a reply post but it's got to be approved by moderators?)   Anyway in the meantime: Good to know about the egg! I think I was still half thinking about raw food mixing when I realised there isn't any bone in FF and thought some eggshell might add the necessary calcium, with a dollop of...

    Evaluate my proposed cat's diet

Wow thank you for all the quick replies! I agree about it not being ideal to keep changing foods straight off the bat. What I was thinking of doing was getting a bagful of whatever food the kitten is currently on, and feeding it every day while adding in a little of the kibble I want him/her to...

    Picky mother cat. HELP

I have read that fish is bad to feed cats as it has the wrong nutrition levels, and tuna especially to avoid because it is very fatty and very addictive - so cats who go on a fish/tuna diet often get malnutrition because they do not want to eat anything but the tuna. I'm not sure if this could...

Picky 10 1/2 week old female kitten and wet food problem

I only know the brand Felix because some guy ate some once for an internet stunt and said it tasted like burnt rubber. So my takeaway is - don't buy Felix! She can absolutely eat adult food. Kitten food is generally better for growth because it is more nutritionally dense, but adult food is...
