Yeah... I think for the extrusion process to work (to make dry cat food), there needs to be some kind of starch binding agent.
See "Dry Food" section in the Wikipedia page for cat food:

...food extrusion...
I feed my cats NB Venison/Green Pea regularly. I have noticed that the texture varies and falls into either one of two categories:
1) harder, less moist, "puck" of food has space around the edge of the can and usually a wedge-like "break" in it. Watery liquid around the empty space. Harder...
Martha is doing an all cat-themed episode today (Monday, January 11th, 2010.)

I had my two on Wellness Kitten Formula (green bag) for most of their formative months which they seemed to do well on, later experimented with other foods and then tried them (after a year) on Wellness' Adult (blue bag.) It was too rich and gave them loose stool. Currently they are doing well...
My cats love the Venison & Green Pea canned. One of the only non-fish flavored canned foods they'll eat. (Which is good... I'd rather not feed so much fish!)

How upsetting. (I have been feeding the Max Roasted Chicken for several months now.) The fact that Nutro seems to always be involved with these pet food recalls, I think I'm plain just going to stop buying their food. There are so many other brands that don't seem to have these reoccurring...

I zap the portion I spoon out in the microwave for about 10-14 seconds. Gets it warm (or parts of it) but not hot. Then I try to mix it around so that it is more uniformly warm... as parts can, indeed, get too hot at times.

Hmm. Could be mold? Probably best to toss it. (And get a refund from Wellness, of course.)
In another weird Wellness occurrence... I bought a bag of the Kitten Health (green bag) and I later noticed it has on the label "Salmon, Salmon Meal & Deboned Turkey Recipe" printed on the bottom...
Well, looking at Purina's website, all their products seem to have either by-products and/or glutens. (All have gluten, Proplan "selects" doesn't have by-products.) Are you saying that they are essentially equal to this particular Iams product? (As in... equally bad?)
-Terry
Just wondering if anyone has experience using this dry food. I believe its somewhat new and Iams has an online coupon for $5 off. Ingredients-wise, it seems ok, with chicken being the first ingredient (although it does have some by-product meal, corn and brewer's rice, but no gluten of any...
