How long will it take for a spay scar to go away on a Sphynx?

There is evidence that it's not the vit E that fades scars--it's the massage when you rub it in. You can use any lotion for the same effect. A study were participants smoothed vit e oil onto scars vs rubbing it in actually showed that vit E used that way (not rubbed in) actually *delayed*...

How long will it take for a spay scar to go away on a Sphynx?

Yes, she will always have a scar. As long as there are no complicating factors (like infection) the scar should fade a good deal to where it is white and barely visible. I would say you should not be able to really notice it 6 months to a year following surgery, but it will depend on how...

This is just FYI ... Antibiotics

At probably a half dozen clinics in...I don't know...maybe 8 years? I have always had Zeniquin prescribed first. I'm curious--where did your vets go to school? I wonder if this is a CSU thing. I have had Baytril prescribed for my pet mice, when they have respiratory issues. I am not sure if...

    Chance of (Full) Recovery?

How is the vet determining the area of issue? What is he (or she) seeing on the radiographs, if it is not arthritis? Or is your vet just going of off symptoms? Most animals hide neuro issues quite well until they are well advanced--most people do not notice a bit of a crooked walk or head...

This is just FYI ... Antibiotics

Zeniquin (marbofloxacin) first here in CO for urinary infections or skin issues (haven't had any URIs, so don't know what's used for those.) It's and excellent broad spectrum antibiotic that's extremely well tolerated with once a day dosing. I'm surprised that it's not used more often in other...

    Chance of (Full) Recovery?

The answer to your question is, unfortunately, a HUGE "it depends." What's the cause? Is it simply an injury, or is there some sort of degenerative condition? If there is actual injury to the spinal cord, prognosis is pretty grave. If there is inflammation impinging on the spinal cord...

Cat too fat to clean herself; other cats, so "diet" can't work.

I have seven cats and one manx female was so large that she could not clean her back--so the hair matted. Shortly after this issue developed, I switched the whole crew to wet food only. They get fed twice a day. I do not babysit feeding time, and the cats do not finish all the food at...

    Is Neutering "Right?"

The reason vets say NO FOOD after a certain time is because food in the stomach during surgery can come up and potentially be inhaled--cause pneumonia or death. Follow the vet's instructions. This is not something you want to screw around with.

    Do cats in heat bleed?

"In heat" is different than "having a period." The uterine lining is not shed in cats the way it is shed in people.

    Do cats in heat bleed?

No. Cats do not bleed. She will probably come back into heat in a few days. Just a headsup...

    Dewormer: Pumpkin Seeds

So is praziquantel, which is what vets use on tapes. Before the current dewormers were developed, pets and livestock suffered and died due to worm infestations. PEOPLE suffered and died. People who live in areas that don't have access to these meds STILL suffer and die. The current deworming...

How long can she be in heat?

Cats are induced ovulators--the act of breeding induces ovulation. They're essentially in heat until they're bred. I have read of cat breeders using a q tip to simulate the breeding act in order to end heat cycles. If you don't have experience with that method, it's probably not advised...

Why do people say "All kittens have worms"?

It's also important to remember that not all internal parasites will show up on a fecal exam. Sometimes roundworms and hook worms can be difficult to get on a fecal. So are tapes if they're not shedding body segments. To say your cat is truely "clean," you'd have to run a number of fecal...

    Missed dose of antibiotics

I'd give your vet a call. Yes, missing a dose can lead to issues like resistance. Missing multiple doses makes resistance even more likely. Your vet may want to keep your kitty on antibiotics longer, or switch antibiotics, to make sure the infection is gone.

    Confusing condition

Perhaps it's been a urinary problem all along. If he has crystals moving around in his bladder, kidneys, ureters and urethra, they could cause pain that would spontaneously resolve as the crystal moved. Crystals would also explain why he's crying when he tries to pee. Good luck at the vet!
