Mine only does it when he is happy too. Although, in the past I have experienced this with other animals, i.e. rabbits. I guess rabbits do it because of the little bit of salt they get from it. My cat is always interested in trying to get at my saltwater when doing water changes on my tank. So...

Thank you!! That is about how often I change mine, (I use the arm&hammer). I have the open top basic rubbermaid, but just looking to see what has worked for the others on TCS. Appreciate the feedback!
