What kind of food to keep my cat from having stones again?

The vet told me no to the canned food..has to be the royal canin right now.  You know, I asked my vet if I needed to slowly introduce the new food and they told me I didn't  because it was made to be sensitive. Plus it seems that they wanted the switch immediately...

What kind of food to keep my cat from having stones again?

I won't find out the type of stone for 7-10 days . As of now I am feeding the Rx food.  My cat is eating it . They gave me cans so I can use the food to help him take his pills. This is what I did before with Chicken soup cans. But, the vet told me only to use the royal canin rx. He does not...

What kind of food to keep my cat from having stones again?

Is the Royal Canin a prescription food?  I was really researching today...and it's so confusing. But I did look up the royal canin ingredients and just don't understand how that could be better. When all the food business went down..I was feeding my cats one of the foods that got recalled and...

What kind of food to keep my cat from having stones again?

Ok so I posted in the other forum about my cat needing surgery for his bladder stone. Everyone was so nice , helpful and I got great advice..!! He has his surgery tomorrow and I have been told I need to switch him to a food that will help keep his urine levels neutral. The vet suggested Royal...

    Bladder Stones...

Yes, I talked it over with my husband and think it is probably the better idea to go with the surgery. I felt a little better after talking to the vet. I am nervous about it, but would also be nervous about waiting and it getting lodged. She told me cats recover quite well from the surgery.  I...

    Bladder Stones...

I just put a call into the vet...so I should ask: Did she do the urinalysis? How big is the crystal? Can I try the special diet? I am not sure if there is an actual infection or not.  I looked up The royal canin...and it's full of grain..I don't understand how that would be better for my...

    Bladder Stones...

Thanks for all the info...  This is my regular vet...but there are a few of them at the practice so the particular one I saw is new to me. I haven't dealt with any emergencies yet...so I haven't had a chance to figure out how I feel about them. Does that make sense? I have only brought my pets...

    Bladder Stones...

The Royal Canin is what they want me to switch to after his surgery. They told me my other cat can be switched too. I sometimes give them wet food as a treat and have thought about adding that back in every night but gradually increasing the amount. Does Royal Canin also have a good wet food to...

    Bladder Stones...

She explained to me the two types of stones. I don't think she truly knows because she told me they would send it out after removing it and find out which one it is? I did ask if there was an alternative and the vet told me that most cats do not like Hills sd and she doesn't see much success...

    Bladder Stones...

Ugh so I recently posted about my cat going potty in my dog's food bowls. I took him to the vet today and as it turns out it is a bladder stone. They saw it on the ultrasound. I felt like something had to be wrong and not so much behavioral because it was so out of the blue. Anyway they told me...

Behavioral or Medical issue- Cat peeing in dog food bowls?

Oh I also forgot to add that they put him on Clavomox . His surgery would be for Wednesday..I think the clav was for infection?  Do you guys have any tricks to get a pill in a kitty? I have never had to do it before. I have for my lab..but that was easy since he will eat anything.

Behavioral or Medical issue- Cat peeing in dog food bowls?

Well here is the update.... He has a bladder stone. They did a quick ultrasound and tested his urine.  They said he has to have surgery to remove it and then be put on some type of royal canin food forever. It keeps his urine ph level stable. Wish I would have known that before! Haha.  So...

Behavioral or Medical issue- Cat peeing in dog food bowls?

There isn't enough urine to be splashing onto the floors.  I will try the Nature's Miracle (I have some of that) . I thought that washing the bowls in the dishwasher would be enough. I didn't realize it would still be smelling.  The thing is...there is nothing different. His litter has been in...
