pictures of your strays and ferals?

Here is Liam who was a stray cat at a shelter I used to work at. He was adopted out and returned for litterbox issues without even giving him much of a chance. He was never adopted out again and stayed at the shelter until he passed a few years later. I miss him. Here is Faye the first day...

    Greasy fur

I agree. A sink would probably be the next best thing... and probably way easier on your back!

do your indoor kitties wear collars?

All my kitties (and dogs) are collared and tagged at all times as well as microchipped. Collars can fail at times, tags can fall off, and microchips can be missed when scanned or animals just aren't scanned at all so I make sure to cover all my bases. The majority of cats out there are not...

    Greasy fur

I think you should give her a bath. I have rescued a lot of kittens off the street (4 more this past week) and have had to give them all a bath. They go from icky dirty strays to squeaky clean housecats immediately! In fact, the latest two I caught (Josephine and Edward... below) are...

    maybe normal, maybe not?

It sounds like to me he is just very happy to have someone who cares about him and pays attention to him. Much like a starving cat will get excited and ravenous about getting a bowl of canned kitty food, cats need love too and can act just as ravenous about it. I'm glad he found you! (I'm...

How can you tell if a cat is a stray or if it is somone's outdoor cat?

Definitely spay the kitty. There are millions of cats and litters of kittens euthanized every year in the US just because of irresponsible owners not getting their cats fixed. I would get her fixed without even giving it a second thought. Even if the cat is owned by someone you just saved...

    Name This Cat

Sounds very nice. Good luck finding him again. He might have heard the word "neuter" and gotten scared off. If only they knew what was best for them! He's adorable! Let us know how everything goes!

    Neutering & I.D. Questions

I work for shelters who do literally thousands of cat spay/neuters and even more kitten early spay/neuters and there has been no more risk to the youngsters than you see with any older cat. Most vets right now recommend 5-6 months since early spay/neuter is a newer idea. Pretty soon it will...

Do these boxes look big enough......

$4.77! I think they are over-charging at the Wal-Mart here in Illinois because that's where I got mine too! Eesh!

    Microchip Brand

The last two shelters I worked for both used Home Again and inserted it themselves. I personally prefer Home Again as the online records are easier to keep and I feel they have a better system for keeping track of everything. However, either Home Again or Avid would be a good option and are...

Do these boxes look big enough......

SophieC, I have the exact same 17" container (same color and everything) for my "high-rise" urinator and it works perfectly as well! I was at a loss before I got it and can't believe that a $6 bin would solve all my problems! I highly recommend these for anyone!

    Best quality clumping litter?

Tidy Cats Small Spaces clumps very well and the loose grains drain easily from the scooper which is usually an important key for the auto-clean litterboxes. I don't have one myself, so I can't say for sure, but it's worth a try! Small Spaces has the orange label.

Litter - what is the best?

I have tried so many different types of little for my boys that I can't even list them all. My favorite out of all of them is Tidy Cats Small Spaces. I was hesitant to use it because I didn't like the normal Tidy Cats Scoopable, but this stuff is amazing. It clumps like a DREAM and it scoops...

Frontline Spray: Where's the "mist"... mine streams!

I recently bought Frontline Spray and am very excited at the prospect of saving money especially since I am fostering animals and have four of my own. However, I was reading the directions and it says "apply spray mist until animal's hair is damp to thoroughly wet"... well, my bottle has no...
