Mine are named what they actually are, although in Japanese.
Mi-ke Neko: Tortoiseshell Cat
Tora Neko: Tabby Cat
I think "mi-ke" literally means "three color" or "three fur" or something? It's used to describe the ideal coloring in Japanese bobtails, anyway--calico. Tora means "tiger," as I...
I got Mi-ke from the Humane Society because I'd been jonesing for a cat since I (finally) moved out of my parents' house. It's like a drug craving. Mi-ke was 12 weeks old, a little tortie in an enclosure with her (black) siblings. I didn't "get to know her" or anything--I just got her. It was...
Mi-ke: May 14, 2002
Tora: March? 2006
Tora was said to be 1 when I adopted him last March, but I believe it was an estimate on their part, so I don't know his actual birthday. Either way, he's around 2 right now. Mi-ke's turning 6!
I'm planning to have a joint birthday party for them.
Mi-ke is currently sleeping on an old pillow that I got out to put on my computer chair. Other common places for Mi-ke or Tora are my bed, the cable box, a Cat Magnet blanket, a cardboard box full of wadded-up packing paper, and one of the cat beds. Of course, I also find them under my bed...
Mi-ke did something like that once. Actually, I was finding some poops outside of the box, and I wasn't sure how they got there. Then I saw her running from the dining room to the kitchen, and she paused for a second, went, and kept running. I don't know if all the stray ones happened the same...
Well heck, people do it. It's just good old-fashioned REM. But I read somewhere (which I can't cite now) that cats dream of hunting--some researchers turned off the part of the brain that prevents them from acting out the dream, and they hunted. (Don't ask how they turned it off.)
I got Mi-ke when she was 12 weeks old (per her paperwork), and she'd been spayed. My previous cat was spayed later in life, once we had her, and she went into heat only a few days before the surgery, so we were getting anxious to get it done.
As I don't drink milk, I don't know how they feel about milk jug rings. But they do adore silicone bracelets. I order them from Oriental Trading Company, as it's much cheaper that way, and they adore them.
Mi-ke's always done it. She did it to her siblings at the shelter, and she's been doing it to me. Just this morning, in fact, she got in bed and suckled me.
"They" say it's because the cat was taken away from its mother before it was ready. But I don't think that necessarily means it was too...
Just to nitpick unnecessarily ...I used to have snakes. The recommendation is to feed frozen mice rather than live. Live prey can injure a snake. There have been plenty of cases of people leaving mice in the snake's cage and the mice actually hurt or even kill the snake, and the snake just lies...
I'm not sure Mi-ke was lonely when I decided to get her a friend. Part of the reason I did was because I was going to be away for a couple of weeks and she'd just have a sitter, so I thought it would be nice to have someone around. She was also getting more "boring," I guess--sleeping all the...
Mi-ke's always suckled on me. I should have known something was up, really, when I saw her at the shelter. She and her siblings pinned another sibling and started trying to suckle his tummy. She suckles on my chest, although not where she "ought" to be, so to speak, which obviously wouldn't fly...
