I read in a cat book - do not ever put a colar on a cat , they can get hung up on a tree branch or fence and choke to death , they are not dogs !!

I do know never wait till after 6 mo. Or they will spray all over the house the rest of there life, you will never get rid of the smell .

Sorry I did not see the post's before me , till now,  but think you should still take back to vet. 

A cat that does not eat , drink , or go to bathroom , can die on the 3rd day, take to vet before too late, a vet told me this.
