I have been taking care of a feral colony of 6 cats for almost 2 years. The cats are spayed and neutered except for a Tom cat that I could never trap. He is a survivor - very street smart. He is at least 7 years old. A friend of mine jokes that he is like the cat in Pet Cemetery (Stephen...
Hi! I have not posted in awhile but I have a new stress.
I thought one of the feral cats I have been feeding was a male but I was wrong.... it was a female and she decided to bring up her kittens last week. There are 2 of them. I am guessing they are 4 or 5 weeks old.
I knew I needed to...
I used a "catch and release live animal trap" from Tractor Supply. My neighbor bought it and is letting me use it. It is advertised as a trap for raccoons, possums, etc. It worked pretty good although it took me a while to get the trap set and not be too sensitive.
Yes LDG - I have said numerous times that the outside cats cause me more stress than my inside cats I adopted from the shelter. I love them all but I can't pickup and hug the ferals like I do my inside cats.
Wow LDG....I get it for $.46 per can at WalMart on a regular basis. I am sure the difference in our location is the reason for the price difference. I started feeding them the can food back in the summer when I was worried about them getting enough fluids with the heat. I saw how much they...
I agree Bastfriend. I had no idea how emotionally attached I would become to these ferals. The TNR is intense for me also. I finally released my female feral that was spayed while in heat and then held captive in a large dog crate in my garage for 10 days while she healed. She was slow with...
Exactly....the girls sound as if it's a terrible life-threatening fight!! And I think the sound is amplified in the garage.
The female feral that was just spayed will also chase the other females to the storm sewer and they will hide down there for awhile. My neighbors cat is an...
I started being a feral caretaker by feeding 2 females that had already been spayed by my neighbor. There is a male cat that they don't get along with. Then another female feral showed up and I recently had her spayed. The thing causing me a lot of stress with these ferals is the fact that...
I let her out today. She was confined for 10 days. I just felt that it was time. She has been hanging around the house, sitting on the patio looking in, meowing, and rubbing up against the door. But when I go out and try to greet her she moves away from me. I have tried talking to her and...
She is meowing a lot tonight and is being loud!!! I'm sure she wants back to her normal territory. This is so tough trying to figure out what's best for her.
