It's Not Just a Shower, it's an Adventure!

LOL! This was great! My Pippin does similar things, but rather than come in he likes to open the sliding doors (it is a shower stall without tub) just a touch so he can peek in. It often becomes cold for me so I close it up again and he ends up going and sitting right in front of the door with...

Is my carpet going to be destroyed?

Pippin was just awful on my carpet for the first 6+ months I had him. I tried lots of different things to get him to stop. I had plenty of scratching posts and cardboard box scratching areas. I covered up the sofa (he was scratching that as well) with a regular sheet (this seemed to work, but I...

    Weird Night Behavior

Pippin sort of does this (he hasn't attempted to sleep on my face, but he will wake me by touching my face). I've learned that what he wants is to be let in under the covers. I lift up the covers, he crawls under and settles in essentially in my lap (I often lay on my side and he snuggles in as...

How many cats is too many cats?

My rule is how many hands are in the house for petting. I live alone, thus there are 2 hands available for petting at the same time (as they always seem to want to be petted at the same time). So, you and your boyfriend (I assume you both have 2 hands) would mean 4 kitties max.

    They're sleeping together!!

This morning I awoke before my boys and to my great surprise, Pippin was sleeping on the back half of Bingley (who was also asleep)!! I was so happy I almost cried! I was very careful to not move my body at all (didn't want to disturb them). I've had Pippin since August and while I've been...

Holiday Kitten Care: Leave Them Home?

Another vote for leaving them home. They have each other for company most of the time and if you have someone trustworthy to come and check in on them then that really is the safest approach. There are way too many things that can go wrong taking them with you on a trip.

    "Bedroom" arrangement

Cats will sleep wherever they want. I think it is more important to put food, water, and the litter box in a specific place where they know they can always find it.

    Dark room?

For the first 2 months I had Pippin he would spend the night in the bathroom ("his" room). At first I had a night light in there for him, but he wouldn't settle down when it was on. Only when it was totally dark in there (and it was completely dark as there are no outside windows) would he...

Do your cats let you sleep through the night?

When Bingley first came to me, he would wake me up in the night (around 3 am) wanting out. Slowly he came around to staying in all night and letting me sleep (he is also now an indoor only kitty, so he's come a long way). Rather than being my alarm clock to get up in the morning he is my bedtime...

How did you name your cat?

Fun topic! Since I got my degree in English literature, I like literary names. Bingley - After the character Mr. Bingley in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. My niece was the one to suggest the name after seeing a picture of him. The Mr. Bingley character in the 2005 movie was a redhead and...

6 month old kitten is a beast!

Poor Bingley was starving when he found me last January. When I took him to the vet in April, he was at 11 lbs and I was THRILLED! He doesn't look to me like he has gotten much bigger, he seems pretty lean, but he is healthy and I keep hoping he'll bulk up a bit more. Pippin is a whole other...

Got a little surprise this morning...

These are hilarious! I haven't shut the bathroom door in almost a year now. Luckily, no roommates, so the boys and I can do whatever we want. Every time I go in the bathroom Bingley has to join me. He is quickly followed by Pippin. I do let them up on the counter (Bingley loves to drink from the...

What are your cats afraid of?

Bingley is afraid of quick movements, the doorbell, the vacuum. He used to be fearful of visitors, but since Pippin moved in Bingley is slowly becoming more social. Pippin isn't afraid of anything... except earthquakes. We had one October 30 and Pippin stayed under the bed for 2.5 hours. Poor...

    Jumping on counters

My sister's cat started jumping on the counters out of the blue (after living there for years). My sister set a "booby trap" at the spot where he would jump up of a metal cookie tray and left it there (make sure it is nice and precarious so that the slightest bump will send it crashing to the...
