Our cat Festus seems to have this compulsive need to jump on shoulders (me and my husband - not our daughter, fortunately). When the mood strikes him, he will literally follow us around the house until we let him jump up (or he'll just surprise us at times). He'll sit up there for a minute -...
Yes, the Paxil was prescribed by the vet/behaviorist, but a pharmacist mixed up the compound into a "tasty treat."
Festus has shown increasing aggression/agitation in the past 2 1/2 yrs . . . There were a few "minor" attacks on other people in the year after my daughter was born and then a...
This is continuing the Story of Festus (cat being treated for aggression) . . . so now he won't take the Paxil compound created for him by a local pharmacist, even though "great success" was predicted by the pharmacist. We've tried everything w/ the Paxil - he won't take it. It's been a week...
Hi -
I've posted several times in the "Behavior" forum re: one of our cats (he's being treated for aggression) - this same cat (Festus) now has a little flap of skin sort of coming off his nose. I'm guessing our other cat might have scratched him there at some point, but it doesn't look like a...
Hi April -
I don't have great advice to give, but I just wanted to let you know I understand what you're going through. We're agonizing over what to do w/ our cat and his increasingly-aggressive behavior - he attacked me a couple weeks ago after a couple of loud noises, and we're afraid he...
Do you have a tv in your room? A friend bought one of those made-for-cats videos (containing things like squirrels, birds, etc.) to occupy one of her cats while she was gone, and she said it worked great.
Good luck!

Me and my Festus issue again . . . I'm wondering if anyone out there has had genuine success with Paxil (as a treatment for aggression in cats), and could you share your story? I'd also like to hear the un-success stories, if there are any of those.
The whole Festus thing is starting to cause...
I know we probably just need to give it to him manually, but we're scared of making him mad/provoking another attack. Anyway, thanks for the tip, and I'll check that other thread you mentioned.
Yes, I've been trying the Pill Pockets all day - Festus won't go near them, even w/o the pill inside. My other cat could eat the whole bag in one sitting. AAAARRRRHRHHGGHGHGHG!!!
Anyway, I put Festus in confinement for awhile, b/c he's been doing his stalking thing - he has a little food and...
Hi Charmed -
I just tried giving Festus the Paxil via Pill Pockets (treats you "hide" small pills in) - a neat idea, but of course he won't touch them, even w/o the pill inside. My other cat, of course, just gobbled up a couple like they were the most delicious thing on earth. I've also tried...
Hey Amity -
That's good to know, thank you. The service that provides your treats, are they only local, or is it perhaps a national chain?
Thanks again,
Noelle
Hey Beckiboo -
Here are some of the tips the animal behaviorist gave re: aggression, etc.:
* Keep a diary (date, day of week, time, comments) to track aggresive behavior and try to find a pattern.
* Isolate aggressive cat more often than before with treats and toys in a comfortable place.
*...
Any ferals/outside animals in the area? Stray cats outside our house about a month ago REALLY upset one of my cats and made him act kind of like what you're describing.
Good luck & hope all is ok -
