Leaving kitten alone for 10 days

Is he too young to leave alone for 10 days? Here are the facts: --He's 5 months old, will be almost 6 months at the time of the trip --I will have a pet sitter stop by twice a day, morning and evening --I have 3 other cats so he's not completely isolated --He's never been alone before for more...

    Please recommend a kitty shampoo.

I don't want to use my regular shampoo on them (Philosophy Lemonade) because I think it might be too harsh. I don't normally shampoo my cats, but I have to because my kitten has giardia and the other cats could carry the cysts on their fur so I'm trying to decontaminate everything I can. Are...

T or F: cats who don't cover their business in the litterbox are dominant cats.

I've heard this theory, but I don't know what to make of it. I have 2 cats who dig deep holes and then cover thoroughly (one even seems to smooth it over so that you can't tell she was in there!). One of them is the baby of the family and has the lowest "status" and the other one tends to be...

Tips to combat litter tracking everywhere

Haha. I have a feeling they do this to shake loose dingleberries. My cats go tearing around the house at full speed after they poop.

Do you give your cats heartworm meds?

I'm so sorry for what you went through and I hear what you are saying. I think I'm going to go ahead and get him on Revolution. I don't want to take any chances with my baby. I've always lived in Western states like AZ, CA and UT where there were virtually no mosquitos so the heartworm issue is...

Tips to combat litter tracking everywhere

I've just been using a broom and dustpan. That seems to work. My handvac motor pooped out years ago. One little trick I do is when I scoop their litter I put on slippers so the scattered litter outside the box doesn't stick to the bottom of my feet and I don't track it around.

Do you give your cats heartworm meds?

I live in a moderately low risk state (Virginia) for heartworm and a vet recommended I treat my indoor only kitten for heartworm. This would be a monthly application of pesticide on his fur! I said I had to think about it. In all my 18 years of owning cats I've never had a vet suggest...

    Excessive yawning

Ok, I know this sounds weird, but my new kitten yawns about 4 or 5 times when he wakes up from naps. It's very cute, but I've never seen any of my other cats do this. I'm wondering if he's getting enough air into his little nostrils when he sleeps! Omg, I sound like one of those super neurotic...

Tips to combat litter tracking everywhere

Aside from using a covered litterbox, what do you do to keep your litter inside the box and not tracked all over the floor? I keep my litterboxes centered around a throw rug to help "catch" some of the little pebbles, but they still seem to end up everywhere. Do you use a dustpan/brush, a...

Hi. I'm a new member. I can't believe I just discovered this site!

I am a total cat lover. My husband and I have 4 cats. One 18 year old orange tabby DSH, two 5.5 year old Ragdoll sisters (one bluepoint, one mitted sealpoint with lynx markings) and a 12 week old male red Abyssinian kitten. We lost our 18.4 year old black DSH to CRF last month and I didn't think...

My new kitten will not clean its anus. Help!

That gives me hope. Thanks for the welcome to the site, too. I wish I'd discovered this site long time ago. Just had a CRF cat that had to be put down after many months of sub-q fluid and med treatment. It would have been great to have a forum to ask questions.

My new kitten will not clean its anus. Help!

I got a new kitten last week. He is now 12 weeks old. I have not seen him cleaning or grooming his anus once yet. After he uses the litterpan, if I don't wipe him, he leaves little brown wet spots where he sits. So I've started dabbing his bottom with t.p. after he goes. Will I have to do this...
