    Preparing for nonrecognition aggression/reintroduction

I've tried to use pill pockets, cheese, liverwurst, Churu, cat food, etc. to try and hide gabapentin before and he will eat the coating and spit out the pill. If I crush a pill into food, he won't eat it. And methimazole is bitter. I know because I too have hyperthyroidism and take it every day!

    Preparing for nonrecognition aggression/reintroduction

I have two bonded neutered male cats, age 10 and 12. The 10-year-old cat is definitely an alpha -- and a bully. He gets both redirected aggression when overstimulated by animals outside, and he has had nonrecognition against the 12-year-old cat after the latter has been at the vet. For an...

Cat Won't Wear The Cone Of Shame

Yes it had gauze and it was tied. And he STILL got it off in the carrier. When we got the soft cone on, we tied it tight enough so just two fingers could fit through and he STILL pulled it off.

Cat Won't Wear The Cone Of Shame

A friend drove 20 miles here to help me do this, and we managed to get the soft collar on. The issue is pushing his face through the hole. But in the time I saw my friend out, no more than 5 minutes later, the little bastid had gotten the collar off. I have asked the house call vet to come...

Cat Won't Wear The Cone Of Shame

I don't really have anyone who can help. He is a bear to get into a carrier and having someone come over to help backfired spectacularly. I tried to burrito him and he wriggled away. I am 4'9" tall and I have small arms and small hands and I have no one who can help me, and bringing someone in...

Cat Won't Wear The Cone Of Shame

I cannot even get the cone back on him. He is strong and large and I have small hands. There is no "leaving it on", because it is not on now. I am also now having aggression issues with the cat who stayed home. He rubbed scent on Eli when he first got home but then got agitated. I am...

Cat Won't Wear The Cone Of Shame

My cat Eli just had a mast cell tumor removed from his ear. The vet did a beautiful job, once his fur grows back you won't even know anything happened. But the little bastid was able to get the Cone of Shame off of his head IN THE CARRIER (!!!) and he will NOT tolerate me putting it back on...

    Neighborhood cat in my yard

Unfortunately it is winter here (though I am in the Carolinas so it is not very harsh)...and this cat (I call him "Tough Cat" because when he sees ME he challenges me by staring) does not hang around long enough for me to put on shoes, go outside, turn on the water, unfurl the hose, and spray...

    Neighborhood cat in my yard

My house has a screened porch that my cats love to hang out on.  It keeps them occupied and out of trouble watching the birds and snoozing in the sun.  90% of the time it is fine, but there is a neighborhood cat of unknown ownership (he has a home because he looks well-fed and has a collar) who...

Lots of changes in Eli's life and he is peeing inappropriately

He doesn't pee in his food, he peed in Sammy's empty food dish and on Sammy's placemat.  And he is urinating in the litterbox just fine.  He has done this before in times of stress.

Lots of changes in Eli's life and he is peeing inappropriately

My little guy Eli (age 4) has had a rough go of life.  He was a stray, then in a foster home, then came to live with my husband and me.  My husband was undergoing chemo for cancer at the time and had a stroke 2 months after we got Eli.  They took my husband away in an ambulance and he died 2...

    Feline gastrointestinal lymphoma?

I went through this with my 15-year-old cat Maggie.  Similar symptoms, vet said it could be either IBD or a gastrointestinal lymphoma.   We decided to proceed under the assumption of IBD and see what happened.  As it turned out, the ultrasound vet had a special interest in IBD and said to hit it...

Should I board my cats during moving?

It is all set.  The vet tech/petsitter will come the morning BEFORE the move, wrangle the cats into their carriers and take them for boarding at the vet office where she works.  The kitties will get their annual exams (a few months early) and rabies boosters while they are there.  They will be...

Should I board my cats during moving?

I am moving from NJ to NC in less than a month.  It is a very hard move for me because my husband died 2 years ago and this move is starting over.  I am very stressed and juggling a full time job and dealing with 19 years of belongings and doing it all alone. It is an 8-9 hour drive.  I have a...

Emotionally hypersensitive kitty peeing outside the box

I've written before about my cat Eli.  I've had him a year and a half, adopted as a 2-year-old.  Eli is a very sensitive soul.  He's shy and insecure.  When he and his brother Sammy (adopted January 2014 after his and my beloved Maggie went to the Bridge) play, he's always the one on his back...
