I have been to several free-roaming rescues, where there are like, 20 - 30 cats just hanging out, everyone getting along swell.
But my cat refuses to get along with any other cat - we have had many fosters come and go through our house in the "guest room", and my cat absolutely refuses to even...
Now over a year later, but I just wanted to update this in case it happens to anyone and they are wondering how this resolved: the vet had a "wait and see" attitude, her hair grew back after about a week, and this has never happened again since, nor did it spread to my other cats. Remains a...
The vet shaved the area, rinsed with antiseptic and gave him a Convenia shot (which he has had twice before in his life, so we know he reacts well to it). He thinks that the Clavamox was either not strong enough, or was a rare case where it was not effective against this type of bacteria. Even...
I'm hoping the vet will shave his chin/neck area on that side, so that I can keep an eye on it and notice any new swelling. I'm glad you mentioned checking for dental issues, because the initial bite was quite close to his lips, I hope there are no injuries on the inside of his gums.
Thanks for the quick reply - I am wondering, how will the vet check to see if it is a deep abscess and if it needs a drain? Is this done with Xray/imaging or just observation?
I have an indoor/outdoor cat, and he was in a bad fight two weeks ago. Initially I saw two distinct bite marks, and four abscesses developed (one where each tooth went in) - two on his chin, two on his ear. I started Clavamox early on, and all four drained and healed within a few days.
But...
Update:
It is day three of antibiotics, and the swelling has completely subsided - the wound is just two small punctures (pretty sure it is a bite wound that caused it) on a hairless area about the size of a quarter. He grooms the area often, and I apply coconut oil once a day, which encourages...
Thank you for the detailed reply.
About an hour after I first posted, I checked on him and saw that the abscessed ruptured. I was shocked, because it appeared so far under the skin I thought it would be reabsorbed. My cat is grooming the area, which is now flat with a small hole. He is putting...
My cat has a hidden abscess on the top of his paw. There is no opening or wound, just a swollen lump that is obviously fluid-filled (the vet can tell when she feels it). He has been limping for 5 days, and doesn't seem to be getting any better.
Day #1 - saw the vet, did xrays, concluded it was...
My cat (3 1/2, female, spayed) has been smacking her lips for about a month, but very rarely. This happens once or twice a day, and it is only ONE smack - there is no head shaking or mouth licking. It is only when she just wakes up from a nap. She has no other symptoms, there has been no change...
