    backside stench

I have been feeding them 'The Goodlife Recipe'. It's a dry food. This is the salmon version, but I switch between the salmon and the chicken. I'll have to definitely figure out another food and see if that helps him.

    No, no wet food.

    backside stench

So perhaps it is a food issue. I'd like to try the raw, do it myself diet. Or some other natural food. I have a natural dry food now. And yes, maybe I'll ring the vet about the gland issue. Thanks everybody!

    backside stench

Hi! Well, most times he is not messy. Sometimes, he is and that is when I will clean him with a cloth. But he stinks regardless. He is actually my short-haired one so it's easy to tell! Maybe it is the diet, although he stunk when I got him from his last owner, but perhaps she was giving the...

Question about how much to feed... and what.

Thanks for the site. She emphasizes the water factor and one question is why can't you just add water to the dry food? I am going to order some herbal books for pets that I'm sure will have raw diet recipes too. I have tried to give my cats chicken, but alas it was cooked (silly me!) and they...

    backside stench

Ok, it's pretty gross. I never imagined I'd have so many issues with getting cats!! It's my Pippen. His butt stinks, point blank. Sometimes he just doesn't clean himself well, sometimes he does and still has a smell. It's disturbing when he is laying on my lap and I can smell him. Even his...

    post neuter issues!!

Just wanted to update the situation. Thanks for the tip to use powder and vanilla. I did that today, with cornstarch and vanilla. I had to reapply the vanilla a few times cause they kept licking it off! Anyways, the situation has much improved! They are almost even getting along again and...

    post neuter issues!!

Ok thank you! It is pretty disturbing seeing them so nasty with each other! I hope this ends soon. At least they are both being loving with me now. We are making progress here.

    post neuter issues!!

Do you think I should let them work the room issue out themselves (i.e. let Sammy have the run of the front room since apparently he's the alpha)? Or should I intentionally change the room arrangement?

    post neuter issues!!

So both of the boys were neutered today, together. When the tech brought them out in the same carrier, they were viciously hissing and growling at each other. I bought a separate carrier for the ride home. Now Sammy has claimed the front room (where they both usually hang) and Pippen was...

    Why does she do that?

Hi, My one kitten (almost 6 mos) does that, but to his brother!! I contacted the lady we got them from and she said at 6 weeks the mother refused to let them feed from her. She would hiss at them. But his brother doesn't have the issue, so I guess it goes to show that every cat really has...

    kitten's frustrating behaviors (suckling)

Hi, Yes they are named after Lord of the Rings. I have a feeling he would not prefer a blanket when he has his long-haired brother around, you know? Yesterday I just sat and watched and pretended like there was a one way mirror so I could not intervene. I wrote about how it made me feel. I...

    one kitten overeating?

Hello, Both kittens are 5 mos old. I have been feeding them free will and the one always eats more: he visits the plate more, eats more during a sitting, finishes off the last of it, etc. Since they are the same age, same litter, I'm thinking he is overeating. He also weighs about 1/2 lb more...

    kitten's frustrating behaviors (suckling)

Hello, Thanks for your reply. I agree that in some ways Pippen is needier, but in others he is more independent than his brother. For example, both will sit on my lap and want love, but Sammy definitely does it more. If I try to put Pippen on my lap when he doesn't initiate, he will jump right...

    kitten's frustrating behaviors (suckling)

Hello everybody! I am new to this forum and excited about having a kitten/cat support group! I have 2 5 month old kittens, both males from the same litter (Sammy and Pippen). My issue is with Pippen. From the start he had litterbox issues (he was peeing outside the box, under the bed, etc.). I...
