All of the cats at this colony have been fixed. Occasionally, a new cat will show up and the caregivers will trap it and get it fixed as well.

This is a high school and the problem is that there is no place to relocate them to. We have cats everywhere in Florida. Also, the vacuum effect will just bring new intact cats to the same place. The canned mackerel is awesome! The cats love it because it is SO STINKY. Ugh! I know people who swear by Publix Fried Chicken, too. I've even see people use catnip in addition to whatever food they're using.

I love the extra large trip plate on the Tomahawk traps. That way, you don't have a cat enter the trap, eat all the bait, and never trip the plate. This happens all the time with our Safeguard traps and Haveahart traps. Have you seen the super fancy manual traps with the remote controlled door...

We have this problem a lot in Orlando. They claim the cats are "dangerous" for the children due to the risk of scratches and Toxoplasmosis.

We use canned Mackerel fish for bait. It is REALLY stinky and gross, but the cats love it. You can buy it in the canned seafood section of the grocery store. It's usually very cheap. I love the idea of keeping the non-target cat in the trap while you're waiting for the target cat to go in...

You can also use Comfortis for cats. But, you will have to hide it in wet food and be sure the target cat eats it. Good luck with that, but you could try trapping the target cat for the monthly dose of flea meds....either topically or orally in food. I've found that most healthy colony cats...
