Thank you for this. You posted this about an hour before she was put to sleep. It means a lot that a stranger was thinking of her in her final moments.
Hi all,
Bella passed today. Despite our best efforts, she began today barely even able to stand. She stopped drinking water yesterday due to weakness. I'm amazed at the rapid decline she took. We made the difficult decision to euthanize. I first called my vet, who said she believed it was...
Thanks for all of the info, @white shadow. Tanya's page is so informative, and you can tell the owner of the website is incredibly passionate about helping people deal with this terrible disease.
In all, I fed her about 60 ml worth of food from the syringe today (3 20 ml syringes), with the...
Thanks so much @white shadow. I came home from work today and she seems even weaker and more dehydrated. Her back is 'tenting' when you pinch it. She is having trouble walking around even. She barely fought the food syringe this time. I have upped her food, but haven't seen an increase in...
Also - @white shadow -- I didn't syringe feed Bella nearly as much as you, I maybe did 5-10 mL each of the three times I fed her today, out of fear of her getting nauseous and throwing it up. After watching your video, I think I'll try doing more.
Thanks to @white shadow and @Mamanyt1953 for your thoughtful responses. I apologize for not having responded sooner - I was out of town when she took a turn, so I left very soon after posting to drive back home. I've since taken her to the vet, and had blood work and a urinary analysis...
Hi all,
I'll try to keep this short and to the point. I have a cat (~20 years old) with several health issues that up until recently we had been managing well.
Conditions: Feline Leukemia, hyperthyroidism, congestive heart failure, kidney failure
Current meds: Methimazole (hyperthyroidism)...
Thanks for your thoughtful reply. She really is a resilient cat-- every vet I take her to is amazed to hear how old she is. If you saw her in person you would think with her appearance, energy level, and intact senses that she is a much younger cat. This is even more surprising considering...
I forgot to also add that she was just put on Methimazole for the hyperthyroidism. This is a little concerning to me as well. Some articles I've researched have warned against methimazole if there is a weakened immune system. Although, I guess that's the less of two evils considering she could...
Hi guys,
First of all, I wanted to say that I posted about 4 months ago for diet suggestions when my 20 year old childhood cat Bella was first diagnosed with CHF, and I received not only some great advice, but some wonderful support from people who have experienced the same, and I wanted to...
Thanks, I may try the feliway, you're the second person to suggest that for introductions.
I'm trying my best to be positive. My second brother passed away in January, and now I have my childhood pet facing this horrible condition... so it's just been a lot of stress for me at once. It's been...
@mschauer sorry for the delayed response. Was stressed out a bit because Bella has been having recurring diarrhea, so the Dr. switched her to a new antibiotic and now she isn't wanting to even touch any food that I put the new antibiotic in. She has no problem eating the food with the other...
mschauer-- Sorry, what I meant to say was that it was .30% content. For instance, if you look at this page of wet canned foods, it shows the sodium as a percentage: http://webpages.charter.net/katkarma/canned.htm
I'm assuming this represents the percentage of daily suggested intake...
