Thanks for the responses. I've taken him to the vet already, and he is healthy. Hissy, thanks for the advice. I don't post here much but I do read from time to time and I know you've worked a lot with ferals. It seems logical enough of a reaction for a cat when they've been unsure of food in the...
It's been about five months, so maybe I'll hold off on any changes a bit longer and see if he adapts. I know it must be tempting to gorge on food after living on the streets, not knowing when you'd be able to eat again. Thanks for letting me know how it went with you.
I took in a stray several months ago. He is a big framed cat, and wasn't too thin when I took him in. I have always free fed my other cat, and did so with the stray also after I brought him in. At first, I wasn't too alarmed at his eating, since I thought it was only natural for a former stray...
"but my stepfather always encouraged him to chase the cat and bark at her"
I realize this is your family, and I'm a total stranger, but I wouldn't someone like this bring a dog into MY home to terrorize the resident pets. This is just wrong.
I don't mean to be overly simple here, but have you tried a few different types? My Marat won't touch the "pate" style wet food, but the flakes style he will. Oh he still prefers his kibble, but he can put down the flake style too when lured also by the right flavor. My point is, try a few...
I have had a stray cat coming to my home for a while now. I wrote about it earlier in this thread. http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62859 Anyway, since that time, the owners came and got the cat a few times, but he always comes back to me. As soon as I would open the door in the...
I second Purity. My kitty ran from me after I took him to the vet. He was already neutered, but I took him in for a checkup and some shots. Hid from me for probably about a week. I read on here or somewhere else online about ignoring a cat. It does work. It sounds mean, but its not meant to be...
I don't have an answer for your question, but I did want to say what a gorgeous kitty that is! What a beauty! Also, I think it is wonderful the way you are committed to this cat. You are willing to go to the vet for possible problems, and also willing to overlook your cat not being perfect. Too...
Now I feel guilty for complaining that I have to drive across town to get my cat food. Twenty miles away I can get any cat food I want at the specialty pet store, but I complain about how far it is. You post is a reality check for me to be grateful for what I have available. Thanks.
GASP!!! Only the greatest cat brush ever. You simply must try it if your cat is a short hair. It doesn't work as well on long haired kitties I believe. You can get them at petsmart.

Oh Gareth. That is so sweet. It is wonderful you took the chance on her. Sounds like it was difficult, but now it is all worth it. I can just see her running to you when scared. I'm sure that must just melt your heart. I can't imagine anyone beating and starving a pet.
I got $32,000. If only it were real money. Too bad they asked me a spelling question. I still can't believe sacrilegious is spelled correctly. It just doesn't look right.
Oh gee.. I have some coming and I bet I have an exact repeat of what you just did. My little darling is extremely picky about treats too. Greenies are hard treats, right? I'm half way thinking about eating one myself in front of him and giving one to the dog. Then I'll "accidently" leave one out...
When I got Marat back in May, he was a sweet kitty. He wasn't crazy about being held, did not want to just lay around on your lap, but would come whenever I was sitting for some petting, before going off on his next adventure. He also did not like being brushed at all. I have read some great...
Marat will get on my lap facing me, stretch his little paws up (no claws) on my shoulder and start purring. I call it a kitty hug. He also knows I find it adorable enough I can't resist giving him a kitty treat.
