well you are here, WHAT HAS HELPED WITH YOUR GRIEF THE MOST?

We have Petsbest.com now, and I have heard good things about Trupanion. We had another company, that got a little slow on claims toward the end of our time with them, that a simple google search seems to bear out that folks experience with them was not wonderful.

well you are here, WHAT HAS HELPED WITH YOUR GRIEF THE MOST?

I don't mean to run a commercial here, but on youtube I kept catching an opening ad called, "For the Love of Luck - An Orvis Dog's Story"... which I have watched several times. It puts into words so well that relationship between a human and a dear pet. After Georgie's death, we asked the...

well you are here, WHAT HAS HELPED WITH YOUR GRIEF THE MOST?

Just different situations, Elmo was my first situation with euthanasia as an adult (a much stronger reaction than when I had pets when I was a kid) and he was only 10, so I felt like our time was cut short. But, what I think now is the 2011 death is just not as difficult as it once was because...

well you are here, WHAT HAS HELPED WITH YOUR GRIEF THE MOST?

Thanks for all of the responses... one thing has been on my mind lately... when it is time for a "new" cat... The grief for both Elmo and Georgie came in one size... EXTRA LARGE. However, I can say now that the grief for Elmo's 2011 death is different now from Georgie's 2015 grief... which...

well you are here, WHAT HAS HELPED WITH YOUR GRIEF THE MOST?

I suppose as proof that time helps some, my grief with Elmo's death in 2011 is not as strong as Georgie's 2015 death... time heals so, we just can't fast forward.

    When the moment comes...

Gosh, this hurts to read... and most of us here can relate... I will tell you something I read when I was searching for answers with our euthanasia decisions days later, online, I read where a veterinarian said, "Better a week too early than an hour too late...". Sympathy to you, I have never...

    When the moment comes...

I can relate to the not wanting the hurt to stop to a degree, I would go to youtube and watch Vivienne Matthews, "Letter From A Lost Pet" over and over, knowing what it would do emotionally to me each time I watched it... howevah, as someone once said, "you have to walk through grief, not around...

    When the moment comes...

Nearing the year anniversary, I found something I wrote to a friend of mine within a month after Georgie's death... "I am pretty sure I know why grief yanks you up and down the first 3 days, then lets up for 2... because if the intensity of grief started out as bad as it does the first 3 days...

    When the moment comes...

Similar to what Gordonsmom's vet said, I read a quote online from a vet about euthanasia, "Better a week early than an hour late...", but I don't know that any of us go into euthanasia and always feel 100% sure days later... the vet gave us some pills to administer to Georgie over several hours...

    When the moment comes...

Willie Morris wrote, and the words also appear in the movie, of "My Dog Skip", "and I thought of him everyday..." So sorry about Eva... Willie also wrote, "sure we had dogs when I was a kid... but none like 'ol Skip..." We had dogs and cats when I was kid, but my favorite dog,  Confuscius was...

well you are here, WHAT HAS HELPED WITH YOUR GRIEF THE MOST?

Ginny: Right before I got online I drove in and "Ordinary World" by Duran Duran was on the car cd player... When I had Georgie a little service at the grave, I played the two songs I had access to that meant something, "Heartlight" by Neil Diamond and "Bright Eyes" by Art Garfunkel... I had...

well you are here, WHAT HAS HELPED WITH YOUR GRIEF THE MOST?

Thanks everyone... I hit a particularly rough patch of grief and mourning at the 6, 7th, and 8th weeks after her death. Right after that, when I felt it coming on, I actually waved the grief off for a few days (which the experts discourage) because I felt I needed a break... I tend to agree...

Grieving cat, not happy with new cat in house...

Thanks sarthur2, last weekend I vowed if things were not better to go see if she had a medical problem... but this week I just decided we were taking baby steps and I didn't take her... Last night I tried isolating Abigail for about 9 minutes and taking a wand toy and just playing with Venus...
