What about Revolution?  My vet switched us to that, because she said it also helps with heartworm.

Just want to ask you if the kitty's poop smells bad, beside being runny?  If so, the cat could have coccidia, from parasites.  One that I found did and meds got rid of it right away.  Also, check into the shelters.  A lot of them have very low cost services for finding strays.

How do you know for sure Advantix would have killed your cats?
