Please recommend a good cat care book.

I like Think Like a Cat by Pamela Johnson-Bennett. The book covers so many topics, and encourages the cat owner to try to see things from the cat's perspective. It's provided a lot of insight into the behavior of cats, and has a lot of good basic and medical information as well.

Urinating in the sink, vet visit-- I need reassurance!

5 catsandcountin-- LOL! When I started to read your post I couldn't believe it and didn't know what to think, until I continued reading! Too funny! Last night she did it in the sink again. We had had some cleaning help yesterday. Dh had brought Ruby home while they were there, so he then...

Urinating in the sink, vet visit-- I need reassurance!

Thanks everyone, for the advice. My husband just picked up Ruby from the vet. She does not have any kind of infection, so it appears that it is probably behavioral. It may have been wrong to do this, but we tested a theory about it last yesterday and today. We put a box of kleenex in the...

Urinating in the sink, vet visit-- I need reassurance!

Hi everyone, This morning we came to the realization that our female cat, Ruby, (she's about a year and a half old) has been urinating in the downstairs bathroom sink (it is right next to the litter boxes). We have two cats (litter mates). Recently, we had both (dh and I) thought that there...

    Ringworm!

My daughter has ringworm patches show up periodically (on her legs and on her face right near her eyebrows). This has been the case even before we got the cats. We use Lotrimin on them. You must do that daily for a period of a month or so. Keep doing it when even when it is gone. I'm not...

    Hairballs...

I used to buy those hairball treats. I think they're just cat treats with hairball gel in the center. Personally, I think the hairball gel is just easier, and cats tend to like it. I would notice that the hairball treats tended to get hard & dry before the container was gone--and we did keep...

Switching litter brands for the first time--need advice

Thank you everyone for your input. I went to PetSmart on Friday and took forever making up my mind I looked seriously at WBCL, Feline Pine, Precious Kitty, and something by ExquisiCat (the PetSmart brand?) that is made of newspaper (it was flushable, clumpable, and lightweight). I went...

Switching litter brands for the first time--need advice

I will check out both WBCL and Precious Cat the next time I get to the pet store. This has all been great advice, thanks! Hijacking my own thread here-- I love the PC cookies that are lemon sandwich cremes, and there's the lemon jelly in the center of the top cookie (lucullan delights?), and...

Switching litter brands for the first time--need advice

Emma's friend, that's what I am afraid of! Though I think they are pretty easygoing overall. fingers crossed! Maybe I'll start out by just adding a little bit of WBCL to the top of the box, and then adding a little more each day or every couple of days. I'll pick up a bag this weekend. I...

Switching litter brands for the first time--need advice

Thanks for your responses. I will probably test out the WBCL, once I have the chance to get to the store to pick up a bag. Though it's not my primary consideration, I'm thinking about cost effectiveness. WBCL might not be such an expensive proposition if you take into the account that the...

Switching litter brands for the first time--need advice

Hi everyone, I have decided that after having my cats for a year and a half, that I am tired of litter dust getting on everything. We've always used Fresh Step scoopable litter. I'm tired of tracking, too, but it's the dust that I really can't stand. I've always been afraid to try something...

How often do you wash food and water bowls?

I think I need to get some more ceramic bowls so I can rotate them in and out of the dishwasher since that would be less effort than handwashing every day. jcat, I don't think it's gross to put cat dishes into the dishwasher. Honestly, and maybe this is something I shouldn't be doing, but I...

How often do you wash food and water bowls?

My kittens use ceramic bowls for their dry food and water. I just use kitchen saucers for their wet food and the plate just goes in the dishwasher when they are finished. I usually hand wash their bowls in soapy water in the sink each night, sometimes every other night if we eat out and I'm...

    Kitten finally discovered the counter!

We tried the Sticky Paws on the counters and kitchen table. Our kittens were not at all fazed (sp?) by this--they would just walk all over the tape! So much for that. After awhile, though, they must have gotten tired of being chased down off the counters, because they really don't go on them...

Canned food similar to Nutro pouches

Sammie5, how timely! I just got an email from Nutro Products about this. They told me the same thing you just posted. I'm going to try some other varieties, but I think it might be a slow road--they didn't eat all of the California Chicken Supreme. Maybe after they've had it a few times. I...
