    Fish-based canned vs meat-based kibble

Our old vet, who we really thought highly of, told us that cats really don't live long enough for fish in the diet to be of great concern. You can take that for what it's worth. If you have a Tractor Supply store near you their "4 Health" canned cat food is pretty good  and most of our cats...

    I really need help Guys!!

Don't be sorry. I'm delighted to hear that things are more enlightened elsewhere. Maybe someday everywhere will be.

    I really need help Guys!!

You know the shelters near you better than I do, but everywhere I have lived the shelters view FIV+ kitties and aggression as not suitable for adoption. In Arizona they put down some of these cats the minute they arrive. In some cases the volunteers know more about FIV than the shelter managers...

    I really need help Guys!!

OK, if I understand correctly you will be out of this lease in several months? If that is correct, I would buy a large Pet Porter or carrier and keep Commodore in it with his food and water while you are out. I know this is not ideal, but the other options are much worse. Either you will have a...

What are you feeding your ferals?

Wow, I wish we had a Trader Joe's near us, The nearest one is 200 miles away. Great store! I am GREEN with envy... We used to feed Friskies - all the cats love the stuff. But we got concerned about where they source their ingredients from - does anyone know? I've never tried the Mio 9 pouches...

What are you feeding your ferals?

Right now we're feeding the large cans from Tractor Supply, Paws and Claws brand, as well as the Dad's brand dry food they sell there. The Dad's is a similar type to Purina or Friskies, but it is made only with ingredients sourced in the USA - so no Chinese melamine contamination risk.  Our own...

Beginner trying to trap and rescue possibly sick cat!

I agree. If she says none of her cats are blind or in poor health, this must not be one of her cats, She probably has never seen it around. I would catch it and take it to the clinic.

Beginner trying to trap and rescue possibly sick cat!

Good thought. But I bet the owner tells you that you can have her. Please let us know what she says if you get a chance to ask her about the cat.

Beginner trying to trap and rescue possibly sick cat!

Please don't feel bad for anything! If the cat belongs to your neighbor then she should not be letting a nearly blind cat or partially blind cat outside. There are too many risks outdoors for healthy cats these days. Saying something to her will let you know if she really cares about this cat...

    Dry cat food warning!

Has anyone seen a comprehensive list of cat foods containing ingredients imported from China?

    Dry cat food warning!

Our prayers for Gus as well. We still feed dry to our ferals, but that is mainly because we just cannot afford wet food for them, aside from an occasional chicken, or chicken stock.

    feeding feral cats.

MsAimee - I'm with you. But I believe it is best to do TNR if you have the resources. If all someone can do is offer food, and hopefully ask around for someone to help do the TNR process, I think that is a still a kind deed.    Buffy - I think what you are doing is great.    There is no way...

    feeding feral cats.

I definitely agree that if possible, it is always desirable to TNR any ferals, That is why I always mention places to borrow or buy a trap. But, I also think it is better to feed if necessary to prevent starvation, and then line up help doing the rest of the process, than just letting a stray...

    feeding feral cats.

We always attempt to help ferals. It's true that feeding them can lead to an increase in population, but not feeding them will lead to increased predation, fighting among hungry cats, bite wounds, gouged out eyes, the spread of FIV, FELV, and even possibly rabies - all the things that the author...
