Thanks all for your responses. We ended up fashioning some long cardboard pieces and packaging tape "for the block" so that they're completely invisible from anywhere in the kitchen or otherwise. That little guy is not going to get in there unless he wants to imitate a squirrel and destroy...

If I did, the cutting and fitting would damn near kill me. I was thinking strong packaging tape, and fortunately there is a good solid undersurface as to which it has to adhere to. This MAY be the workaround unless there are any other suggestions. Thanks for your reasonable suggestion!!
