Not sure if anyone mentioned it (I see FF CLASSICS had already been mentioned and you use it.) But Sheba (pate) is a good low cost food. I'm not sure how many carbs it has though.
As for my feeding schedule (I have 4 cats) I feed all four of them either half of a 5.5 ounce can in the morning...
Sheba has a beef entree. It's a good cheaper brand (I feed it, Friskies, and sometimes Fancy Feast CLASSICS.) I use to feed meow mix wet but it's to fishy. (All of their flavors are loaded with fish.)

I am really sorry you are dealing with this. My mom has 9 cats. All girls and one boy all of which are fixed.
Out of the 8 girls (all spayed at the same vet, a VERY good vet at that) one has to be re-spayed. I'm not sure how hard it is because my mom hasn't took her back in it to do her spay...
