Our rescue, Gaia! (long story, lots of photos)

Yea, were pretty sure she's mostly Russian Blue, but not sure what she's mixed with. She was shedding a ton last month, maybe because she's still growing or because of the winter weather. As for calming down after the spay... ha! Well, maybe a little bit so far, but 3/4 of the time when she's...

    Leftover turkey, what to do?

I'm pretty sure they didn't season the turkey. Whenever we open the container she's vocal and trying to get up on the counters! Maybe we'll just give her a cube or two a few times a week.

    Plan me some meals!

High blood pressure= lower salt intake! That's the most important thing I know to help correct it. If you're looking for a great vegetarian dish, look at this! http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/g...ipe/index.html I made it along with portabello parmesan (I added orzo in the marinara) as our...

Our rescue, Gaia! (long story, lots of photos)

Here are a couple of new pictures. This is her napping next to her kitty grass... This was taken after thanksgiving dinner... they both ate too much turkey!

    Leftover turkey, what to do?

We froze some the leftover turkey, since the wife and I don't like it that much (parents made us take some home) we were thinking of feeding it to the cat as a treat in little chunks. Is there another way she'd like to eat it, or is that a good plan?

    Too rowdy after spay!?!

Gaia, our 5.5 month kitten got spayed on Friday. She was drowsy and was showing the effects of anesthesia until 8pm that night, then she was her normal rambunctious self. The vet said her pain killer would help calm her down, but now that she's acting normal I'm worried that she'll hurt...

Cat bit by assassin bug in mouth!

She seems to be fine, thank god! She's going to the vet today to get spayed, so I'll mention it to them so they can check out her mouth. I got bit while collecting for an entomology course a few years back... I hate handling bugs! I'm a little afraid of snakes too, but that hasn't kept me...

Cat bit by assassin bug in mouth!

We got her to drink some water, she's stopped foaming from the mouth and is acting normal again, just licking her chops a lot and her tongue is a little swollen. Guess I'll have to wait and see how she's doing tomorrow. I can't imagine the pain she just went through, I've been bitten before...

Cat bit by assassin bug in mouth!

My cat just tired eating an assassin but and got bit in the mouth! She's foaming at the mouth and hiding right now... is there anything to do?

Declawing & behavior changes... let's dig deep!

You'd think that with the millions/billions of declawings that have happened, someone would have summarized findings... like follow ups from vets asking the owner of any behavioral issues. Maybe vets should start handing out a checklist of behaviors, to be filled out before, and a month after...

Declawing & behavior changes... let's dig deep!

You'd think that with as many cats that get declawed, they'd have done sufficient research to show the risks... guess they don't care if it's not human, or horse.

Declawing & behavior changes... let's dig deep!

Good start, but 25 subjects doesn't constitute a solid study. Maybe there just hasn't been a really good study done on this, I'd like to see numbers in the thousands, broken down my gender, age among other things. Maybe I'll bring it up with one of my old college professors and see what they...

Declawing & behavior changes... let's dig deep!

I'm going to ask a question, and I don't want a ton of people yelling at me, just curious (I also think declawing is inhumane, as well as letting your cats outside-killing wildlife-) I have a very scientific mindset, and my question is... are there any studies that show a relationship between...

Our rescue, Gaia! (long story, lots of photos)

Well, we were at the vet a week ago for some boosters... and she's 1-2 weeks older than originally thought! She had already started her incisors(i think). I'm glad we took her in, she might not have made it if we didn't bring to to the vet at quick as we did when we got her. That would also...

    Cat water fountains

We decided to get the fresh&clear dome. I know it will be a hassle to clean, but she loves to lick water off surfaces, so the dome is perfect! When we first set it up she started to play in it, still does. You can see some water droplets on her bum in this pic.
