My vet would`nt not be on the "up & up" would he?(Sorry...long!)

Frontline has worked great for my cats. And it seems to be good at keeping ear mites from spreading from one cat to another even when it doesn't actually kill the ear mites. As the other person mentioned, it does need to be applied to the skin, not just the fur. And 2 or treatments for worms...

How do you get them to eat?

How sick is Bella now? I'm think it's more important that a sick cat eats something than try to insist that she eats the best food right now. [edit] sorry, i missed your line about her IBD not doing well on the W/D. Still, I think you'll just have to try some different diets until you find one...

    Arrghh!

Mine do that too. Charlie just thinks it's a game when I push him off, but eventually he gets tired of it.

    Brand new, Cat intro questions!

Could you feed the kitten canned food 2 or 3 times a day, separated in another room away from the older cat? Between meals the kitten may nibble on the old guy's food, but she should find canned stuff more appealing and eat that mostly. And a little of the prescription food won't hurt the...

Itchy cat after change of diet

Here's a site that explains what I'm talking about better than I can. http://www.felinecrf.org/nutritional...ments.htm#EFAs They talk about 5:1 n-6 to n-3 (I don't know where they got those numbers) but commonly used diet ingredients already contain a large amount of omega-6 so there's going to...

Itchy cat after change of diet

What's your source for that? I'm really trying to seriously research this issue and I find lots of opinions, but nothing very authoritative yet. And what's your source for recommending flax seed oil? My bet is that your cats would do just as well without it. what's that supposed to mean? If...

Itchy cat after change of diet

Sharky, what do you mean, what type of balance are you looking for? Different fish oil products have different formulations, some include n-3 and n-6 a well as vitamin E, some change the EPA/DHA ratios a bit and include only small amounts of n-6. So whether it's balanced is going to depend on...

Itchy cat after change of diet

As far as oils, stick to a fish oil. Cats do not have the metabolism to utilize plant-based oils correctly. And cod liver oil contains too much vitamin A, so use fish body oils with omega-3 fatty acids.

    My Fat Kitty

Light and reducing diets didn't really work for my cat. Because I was allowing the cats to free-feed, chubby learned to adjust to the lower calorie food and eat more. I had to stop free feeding, switch to canned food and only feed 2 or 3 meals a day. He's loosing weight now on the new...

no by products = less stinky poo?

Usuaslly, it's recommended to switch a cat to new food gradually. Mix the old and new foods together for several days, gradually increasing the proportion of new food while decreasing the old.

    Cold Cuts for Kittens

As the others said, don't feed them any smoked cold cuts. Plain cooked chicken or turkey is fine occasionally, they should still get a proper cat food for most of their meals. Tuna is only OK for a very rare treat, frequent feeding of tuna can cause major vitamin deficiency. Although tuna...

How can you tell when a cat is underweight?

Possibly she just lost weight because she missed you while you were gone and wasn't eating well. BUT, weight loss is also a sign of many different illnesses, so it is a very good idea to get her checked out by a vet as soon as you can.

    Is it true about cats?

The other thing to be concerned about with a cat bite or ANY other puncture wound is tetanus. Tetanus booster shots are supposed to be effective for ten years. When I volunteered at a local shelter they had us get our tetanus shots up to date before allowing us to work with the animals.

Vacuums that work on cat hair?

Eilcon, I have an Orek. It must be 15 to 17 years old now and it still works great. I've had to replace the belt several times but the motor is still going fine. The bags are expensive if you get the best filtering type, but since I don't like the idea of having to empty out the bagless type...
