    Congenital Kidney Disease in Kitten

Ok, I cannot find a food that is grain free that has no guar gum. After looking more at Wysong Au Ju, I don't think it's an option since they don't meet nutritional requirements (if thats the sole food source). Of all of the ones I have the phosphorus info on, it looks like EVO chicken & turkey...

    Congenital Kidney Disease in Kitten

Eek - the Merrick Before Grains ones are pretty high in phosphorus. There are quite a few other non-prescription ones that are low, I'll just need to check their ingredients. Guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend! :)

    Congenital Kidney Disease in Kitten

I had no idea spinach was that bad. It's in a LOT of natural cat foods! I just picked that one because it was very low in phosphorus and natural. She likes dry food too, which is generally higher in protein, but also much higher in phosphorus. And with kidney problems, the vet recommended...

    nail injury : (

Sorry for the late reply - just saw this.  There is no way I could get my cat's paw dipped in anything for five minutes!  Maybe you could wet a cotton ball and tape it?  That would probably be just as disasterous though (at least it would for my cats).  Is it still infected?

    Congenital Kidney Disease in Kitten

Well, she was rescued from a shelter in August and her first foster had been feeding her Iam's kitten dry food.  Her belly was already swollen/bloated when she was rescued (and everyone assumed parasite/worms, so she had treatment).  So after all of her treatments and negative fecals, she still...

    Congenital Kidney Disease in Kitten

Just to give an update, there is no change in her belly after being on probiotics for 2 weeks. Her poop seems to have improved a bit (she has not had diarrhea since the first day of switching to wet food). And her appetite is great. She's stopped drinking excessive amounts of water (so I'm...

Natural Wet Food that is NOT Pate

Well, it looks like the Merrick Thanksgiving Day Dinner might be the winner.  I tried one can of this on Thursday (very fitting) and they both scarfed it down and no one threw up!  And I really like the ingredients - you can actually see the veggies and chunks of meat in it (though it does smell...

Natural Wet Food that is NOT Pate

They are not picky at all about dry food, which is good.  I know a lot of people have problems with that.  I've tried feeding them dry food with some homemade chicken stock added and they didn't go for that either.  They LOVE turkey - but real, homemade plain roasted/poached turkey (so they will...

Natural Wet Food that is NOT Pate

Hi all! My 2 adult cats are not picky at all about dry food.  I currently have them on Innova dry for mature cats (they've also been on Royal Canin and Nutro, but they seem to like the Innova the best).  They are, however, very picky about wet food!  I've been trying to get them off of Meow Mix...

My cat has something on the underside of her front leg, what is it?

I would definitely go to the vet too just to be safe.  Does it smell funny (cat infections have a very distinctive odor)?  This looks very similar to cat bites mine get when they get in fights.  It does look like it's started to heal though - usually when you see the hole like that, it's already...

    nail injury : (

One of my cats is very prone to this - no idea why.  He's ripped of his claws 3 or 4 times climbing up things.  It's gotten infected once or twice, so I took him to the vet for antibiotics.  And he eventually pulls the nail off if it's hanging on.  I think it's completely normal for them to lick...

    Congenital Kidney Disease in Kitten

The vet hasn't recommended a prescription diet yet.  She wanted to see how she does with these adjustments.  If we can get her phosphorus lowered and her belly taken care of, we'll be in a better position to proceed.  I had already found the feline CRF site and there is some great info on low...

    Congenital Kidney Disease in Kitten

Hello all, I have a foster kitten who is approximately 6 months old and has been through a LOT in her very short life. She has had a swollen belly for the past 4 months and been to several vets (I'm her 2nd foster and have just had her for a couple of weeks). Apart from the swollen belly, she is...
