    Winter/Summer Weight Question

My two indoor cats haven't changed at all from last fall to now. Juniper, an Abyssinian, weighs the same as always now that he's fully grown -- about 10.2 lbs. Bixby, a balinese, is also the same, although he changes color in the wintertime ;D

New friend for our sick older cat

If you wouldn't want to have a biopsy because you didn't want to put him through it, getting a new cat would be ten times worse. A biopsy is a one time thing, and he feels better in a few hours. A new cat is a new cat 24 hours, and he'll feel like he's being replaced -- which he would be...

    Kitty Whispers

Neither of my cats have "a meow." They have a "voice" that they use to express themselves with a variety of meowy things. Juniper chirrups if he's happy, going "prrrr-ow!" or just "prrrrr" (not a purr). If he wants attention it's "meeeeeew? meew? meeeeeeeeeeew?" If he thinks he's about to...

How much food should I feed a 8lb cat?

Bixby, the younger cat, will eat what we put in front of him, whether it's a raw food nugget, some wet food, or he'll munch on some kibble that we leave out, but he never eats very much. Either he's got a small tummy, or he likes to snack, but he's still scrawny/growing at a little over 4...

    backside stench

Bixby stunk when we got him, and it took him over a month for it to "wear off." We believe it was the difference in food quality, as his fur is much softer now as well. It wasn't a poop smell, though, more like cat BO.

    breeding...

I agree with the sentiment that there are many breeds that need good breeders, and the other aspect of that is the fact that any breeder is going to get some "pet quality" cats. If you're in the middle of nowhere, and you're breeding a popular breed, you will have a hard time placing those pet...

    How old are these kittens?

How long to keep new kitten in "safe room" ?

Depends on the kitten, really. For Bixby, he was very outgoing and wanted to be around us, so we slowly introduced him to Juniper -- who had been with us for about 2 months, by himself. So we put him in the carrier and stuck them in the hallway after Bixby was sequestered for about 2 days...

    Clipping a cats claws

We do our cat's claws on the weekend, around 2pm when they're sleepy. Lately they even purr when we do it. Granted, they're kittens so they're getting pretty used to it, but you may want to try that. Also, if your cat is being troublesome, there's nothing wrong with holding her firmly. We...

    cleaning a cats ears

Juniper's ears were getting a little gross, and the vet cleaned his ears when we went in for his neuter. They were getting pretty bad again, so what we did to keep them clean was get another kitten. Took a few weeks but now they're much cleaner (ok ear cleaning wasn't the only reason we got him)

moving cats from ireland to spain

It's a little unfair; I'd suggest you enroll them in a spanish class so they can talk to other cats in the area without being totally confused.

    Raw to Kibble

Most people feel that doing *anything* with the litter box is worst than handling any food One of the things I like the most about raw and "human grade" wet food is that it smells like food. I can't imagine I'll cook it up for myself one day, but it's nice that their food smells like...

How many cats is too many cats?

The biggest problem with multiple cats seems to be more with litter box issues and food issues. As in, making sure their basic needs are met. Affection is easy, for the most part, as is territory after the first week or two of introductions. The hard part is making sure you can keep up on the...

Temperature to conserve heat but not freeze kitties??

Another thing to remember is that cats LOVE heat, even in the summertime. So just because they're going around looking for warm spots if you keep the house cold, it doesn't mean they're actually cold.

Do they still refill litter containers?

Because there's no FreshStep store. They'd have to convince a pet store to have a big bulk tub filled with litter; much easier for them to handle all of the packaging and shipping themselves. Plastic tubs are almost trivial to create nowadays, which is why it's more consumer-oriented than...
