    medicine thieves?!

Can't say either of mine are excited to take medicine, but Lilly loves to play pharmacist by opening the cabinet where I keep the human meds and knocking them off the shelf and onto the floor.

Front paws in litter tray, back paws (and poop) out

A Clevercat Litter Box is one with the opening in the lid, as opposed to on the side. He wouldn't be able to hang his back end out of the box.

    Cold weather = snuggly?

We had a cold front move through today, and I noticed that my cats, especially Leo, are much more snuggly. I started thinking back, and realized this is a pattern of behavior every time it gets cold out. He is not usually a lap cat, but every time I sit down when it's cold out, he hops up on my...

    Pee and UV light

Dry stains will glow, too. The "fresher" the stain, the more it will show up. Older stains show up, but are more "muted". A florescent tube black light, like what you would install on a shelf under a bar, works much better than a black light light bulb. I got one at Lowe's for under $20.

    Post Urethral Blockage...

This is no fun. You don't mention this, but does he get any wet food? The increased water intake helps keep cats from getting uti's. Mine get their wet food mixed with (extra) warm water to make a "soup" to help Leo avoid future uti's. If your cat doesn't get wet food, it's something else I'd...

Update on Virginia's Anal Gland Rupture

Glad the mystery is solved! It's quite possible she's associating the litter box with pain at this point. It's somewhat common with cats who have urinary or anal gland issues. You might try a different type of litter (ie, pellets or Yesterday's News instead of clumping) and see if that helps.

    Urinary Block recovery - WORRIED!

Each cat is a different story, obviously. My vet said that if the first occurrence is at a young age, it is more likely to be a recurring thing. Of course, there are young cats that have a blockage once and no more problems, but according to my vet, the general trend is young cats who have a...

    Dinner Plates, Beware!

Is it a matter of being up high? Would it be feasible to put a cat tree in the kitchen? That might satisfy her need to be elevated to see what's going on, and your desire to keep her off the counter... Just a thought.

    How do they get worms?

It's not from being bitten, it's from the cat swallowing the flea when they clean themselves. From the Centers for Disease Control website: "By swallowing a flea infected with a tapeworm larvae. A dog or cat may swallow a flea while self-grooming. Once the flea is digested inside the dog or...

What did the Vet do to my babies?

Poor babies! They are probably stressed out, and they might not recognize each other's smells right now. You might try dabbing a little vanilla extract on the base of their tails and rubbing some on their cheeks to get them smelling alike again. Hope all is back to normal soon!

Update on Virginia's Anal Gland Rupture

You might call the vet for your peace of mind. When Leo had surgery in August, it was a full 6 days before he pooped (and yes, I called the vet after a few days). I don't remember how long it took him before he peed, but I don't think it was more than a couple days. Remember that Virginia...

    How do they get worms?

There might be other reasons, too, but what I can think of: From other cats, especially in a shelter or group setting. From fleas, which can cause worms up to several months after fleas.

    Urinary Block recovery - WORRIED!

I don't know the OP's story, but it could likely be that the blockage was due to cystitis; inflammation in the bladder that is idiopathic (no known reason). The majority of blockages that *aren't* due to crystals/stones fall in to this category. To the OP: I would call the vet at the first...

Nature's Miracle Clumping Litter & Clevercat Top Entry Litter Box

We have a Clever Cat litter box, and I love it. It *definitely* cuts down on the tracking. Most of the litter that gets out of the box stays in the grooves on the lid. It makes keeping things clean much easier. Lilly uses it no problem, and I think she prefers it to any other litter box we've...

    Stink Rear

I'd probably chalk it up to her young age. Stress can play a role too, so if she's still adjusting to her new environment, that could be a contributing factor as well. Hopefully it improves; I've been there!
