Just found some kittens. If the Mom abandons them, what should I do?

I had a friend who found a newborn much like your experience.  He kept the baby warm, held him alot, fed him and bottle fed the tiny thing.  He lived, much to their delight.  He would climb up on David's shoulder and suck on his ear lobe and fall asleep.    What a cutie! Thanks for rescuing, he...

Not sure if stray or feral, but still want to slowly give it love!

I am around feral cats alot.  Right now I have 2  (possibly 3) females that have given birth to 12 kitties.  Both mom cats are feral.  I began working with them last year and was able to bring one inside to have her babies.  It took a little time but I talked to her very softly fed her pieces of...

Do I bring her with us?

Ditto what Ondine said, thank you for not abandoning them.  I was told that when a feral gets used to someone being their food source they have to learn to forage for themselves when that food source is not longer available. I am in somewhat the same situation.  None of the shelters or humane...

Do I bring her with us?

Wow, that's a tough one.  I will be facing the same delima myself soon. Is there a Feral Cat Coalition in your area?  Or a Humane Society?  How about a shelter?  I would contact them.  Is it possible another neighbor take over? I can't leave mine behind without knowing they would be cared for.

    At my wits end

To Dad, It's a bit like having the tips of your fingers chopped off and not have any feeling in the end.   Having the back claws chopped off takes away any defense they have if they get out and have to defend themselves.  (The back claws are used to fight with, i.e. defense)  And yes, there is...

    Feral Safety

I have a few feral colonies I take care of and feed on a daily basis. For the last few days we have been hit by snow and have accrued about 7" of snow. Highly unusual for us here in Portland. I still continue to leave food in their food areas and have tried to protect those areas. My problem is...

I commend you on your efforts for ferals.  They need someone to care and advocate for them and you are so kind to do so.

    Home-Made Cat toys

I put ping pong balls in the bathtub.  My cat would jump into the dry tub and proceed to bounce/roll them off the back of the tub creating a continuous "up and over" movement.  He would play for 30  minutes at a time.  He was a Turkish Van and liked a little water.  Sometimes I would put about...

Mammary cancer - I'm so distraught right now

I am so sorry for your loss.   I too, have had to put two suffering cats to sleep.  It is not easy and though some time has passed I think of all the pleasure and peace my feline friends have given me.  They were as devoted to me as I was of them.  I am still sad at times but now I remember...

Need Advice/suggestions/Support on trying to domesticate a scared stray/feral

What a wonderful thing you have done.   I don't let my cats outside anymore due to fleas, ticks, injuries or sickness from other cats.  They are accustomed to that now and are happy to sit at the window. Sometimes mixing a bit of broth to their water will make it more desirable, the low sodium...

Friend of Ferals Award Badge - Apply Here

Off and on for my entire life I have fed, adopted or found homes for stray/feral cats.   I was always amazed at the number of pet owners who would abandon or drop their pets in another neighborhood thinking someone would pick up where they left off.  It's just so cruel. For the past 10 years I...

    Cats and apartments

You might try this.  Have a doctor write a letter or a document or "To Whom it May Concern" stating your pets are "Therapy Pets".   I have depression on and off and my cats provide a sense of calmness and peacefulness for me.  My doctor did not hesitate to write the document as he knows how...
