She beautiful. Give it time. But she may never be the kind of cat that you can pick up. I have cats that I adopted as adults and one is happy to be picked up, and the other hates it! 

One of my cats did this for weeks after we first got her, but given time she grew more confident and now only goes under the bed when the vacuum cleaner comes out!!

Do you just have one scratching post? You may need to experiment with different ones. My two prefer horizontal scratchers, and aren't interested in the vertical scratchers we have for them. You may also need to experiment with different textures - cardboard, sisal, carpet. So maybe get a couple...

Sounds like you needed to keep the new cat separate for longer. You should at first do introductions through a small gap in the door, or from behind a baby gate so that the cats can get used to each other before a proper face to face. You should also not allow your new cat free run of the home...

Hey kntrygrl - I was proud of them until Mele decided to sniff RoRo's butt yesterday. She got right in there!!! It did not end well lol!!
