How to get our cat to lose weight? We almost tried everthing we can !

A few ideas: 1. When it comes to cat food, both carbs and fat matter. Science Diet restricts carbs (as much as is possible in a dry food) but not fat. Royal Canin Adult Light restricts both carbs and fat, so you may have better luck with that. 2. Don't assume the fancy "grain free" foods are...

    It's not asthma!!!

I recently adopted a young male cat, who appeared to be having occasional asthma attacks when playing or sleeping (he's had two, a few weeks apart). Head down, neck stretched out, tongue sticking out, rasping noises -- looked EXACTLY like any YouTube video of a cat having an asthma attack. But...

"Needy phase" or permanent personality trait?

Two months ago, I adopted an adolescent cat, who is now eight months old. And kind of driving me a little nuts. He wants attention *constantly* -- follows me everywhere winding around my feet, constantly trying to jump on my lap whenever I'm sitting (I've started locking him in the bathroom...

Do tail twitches/thumps always mean "annoyed"?

My new foster cat twitches his tail while I'm petting him. He'll be stretched out on his side, purring and tail going "thump thump thump" on the couch... The only two meanings for a twitching tail I know are "I'm hunting" (he's definitely not) or "I'm annoyed". I'm particularly aware of the...

    Rejection stings

Ouch! Sounds like a very painful situation for both you and Snow! And one that, for everybody's good, should not be allowed to continue. Are you able to bond with Snow at all? If you restrict her to your bedroom (with you in it!) will she eventually come to you for petting? Does she seem to...

I think I just almost killed him!

Update: Vet says he's fine. Apparently open-mouth breathing is somewhat "normal" in a stuffy-nosed cat, especially in a hot steamy room. He'd stopped before we got to the vet, and purred his head off and made friends with all the staff while we were there... Still... that was scary... we're not...

I think I just almost killed him!

My new kitty had an upper respiratory infection, and in addition to the antibiotics from the vet, I put him in his carrier in the bathroom with the shower running so he could breathe some steam... (had the carrier up on the toilet, not *in* the shower...) I came back to check on him later and...

Very nervous right now (female cat personailites)

Oops! I misspelled "personalities" in the subject line, but it only lets me edit the post body! Sorry!

Very nervous right now (female cat personailites)

Next week, after the shelter spays her, I am hoping to bring home a not-yet-named brown tabby girl. I am really, really scared it's not going to work out. She seems like a great kitty, just wanted to sit in my lap and be lovey, was gentle and cooperative when I trimmed her nails, and when I...

    Color-coordinating with agouti hair?

Hi! I hope it doesn't sound too weird to say this, but... I like to color-coordinate my furniture and wardrobe with my cat! I had a black cat who shed and shed and SHED, and found it was easier to just give in and get a black futon cover and wear dark shirts instead of obsessively furminating...

    Adopt or keep waiting?

Three months ago, I sponsored my beloved kitty to go to a sanctuary because his litterbox problems were more than I could handle any more. We'd been to three vets and two behaviorists and he was still getting worse, not better... After a few months, I decided to start looking for another cat...

Why doesn't he want me to take a bath?

Whenever I take a bath, if I forget to close the bathroom door to keep him out, Moose climbs onto the toilet and meows frantically and *loudly* at me! It is much louder and more insistent than the "I'm hungry" meow or the "I don't want to be in the carrier" meow -- the *only* time I ever hear...

Very affectionate cat -- needs (animal) friend?

That's the thing though -- I don't know if he's happy! I mean, he's happy when I'm here... but I'm not always here. I know cats are supposed to be independent, but this one is such a little cuddle-bug... I worry about him getting lonely while I'm gone at work all day. And half the time I end up...

Very affectionate cat -- needs (animal) friend?

I have a wonderfully, incredibly affectionate two-year-old neutered male cat named Moose. He "talks" to me in little chirps and coos, he meets me at the door when I come home... any time he's awake and not playing, he wants to be with me, on my lap or trying to drape himself over my shoulders...
