If you comb your cat on a regular basis you can use a dryer sheet...just take the comb and poke in through the dryer sheets and comb him out. I use unscented ones because I don't like the strong perfume-y smell. Also, a teflon coated comb will cut down on static.
I don't think the collar is nessicery as most cats will not mess with their incision, if anything it is usually just normal licking. E-Collars can cause more stress than they are worth too...most cats absolutly hate them and stress out over them, I do not see a need to use an e-collar unless...
