UPDATE: Took Rocky to the vet on Friday, and he was diagnosed with feline idiopathic cystitis. He's on pain meds for a couple of days. I also just got the results of his urinalysis, and they found bacteria in his urine! So now he gets one onsior 6 mg pain tablet every 24 hours, and a clavamox...
Last year Rocky had a blockage, and was on prescription hills canned food for a while. He didn't seem to interested in the food, so initially I had to put temptations cat treats on top of it to encourage him to eat. Maybe there are different prescription foods you can try? I had to talk with the...
I have scheduled a vet appt for Rocky tomorrow. Although he is still passing urine, it's obvious that he's been taking longer to use the litter box and has been peeing in really small clumps as of today. He's also increased the amount of time he's spending grooming down there, so it looks like...
UPDATE:
Help! Rocky has started displaying sexually aggressive behavior! He's started bothering his sister, Bijou, sniffing her butt trying to bite her and mount her!? He's neutered, so why is he doing this? Bijou is spayed too so I don't know what it could be.
Also, I saw him grooming his...
Thanks for the reply! I've been watching him and it hasn't happened again, I've only noticed it about 2 times. The first time being about a month ago, the second time being yesterday. As I said, its only about a speck of it and his behavior and grooming has been normal. I was a bit worried...
So its a bit awkward to say, but I've noticed the tiniest amount of yellowish whitish disharge with snot/mucus consistency on Rocky's genital area.. just a speck really, and just a couple of times. Should I be concerned? He's acting normally, no excessive grooming or anything.
A google search...
UPDATE: Rocky's scabs and hair loss has worsened significantly, and its gotten to the point where I think we're going to have to schedule an appt for him and get him some relief. I hope to talk to the vet about my concerns, and if it comes to treating with him steroids, maybe I can ask about...
I've been suspecting the same myself actually.. Rocky's skin issues seemed to hit their worst in the fall and winter, but were pretty good in summer and spring. I'm going to give omega 3 supplements and biotin supplements a go, but if it doesn't work I'll consult with a vet.
Thanks so much for the response! I'm trying to avoid extensive/unnecessary steroid treatment at all costs, for the possible side effects. Hopefully I'll find something that works, and maybe I can see about this topical cortisone.
Food allergies could be the culprit, Rocky had terrible sores and plaques on his belly last year and we had to switch him over to Natural Balance LID grain free. I've heard that omega 3 helps, have never personally tried it though. Good luck!
After going through the same situation with my cat last year, I understand the stress. Like the others said, just give the vet a call and ask! I did the same, and there is no shame in just checking. Rocky was really out of sorts for a while, its quite the recovery process. We had to keep him in...
You've tried pretty much everything I can think of.. when my cat Rocky was having digestive issues I solved it by switching him to Natural Balance, feeding him in VERY small and frequent amounts, giving him Naturvet prebiotics and probiotics chews, and supplementing him with fiber. Rocky's...
I was reading about the use of antihistamines in cats, and it looks like I could try 5 mg of zyrtec. I'm trying to find out possible side effects though, and am debating whether to try it without the ok of my vet, or test it out. I'd have to persuade my parents to get schedule a vet appt, which...
I have been looking into a new diet for Rocky, and I will look into the Nature's Variety brand. I currently feed him a combination of dry food and wet food, but perhaps I should try increasing the amount of wet food he gets. I was also considering trying raw food or a homemade diet, but I don't...
